Joan and Lou Jacobs Named Honorary Chairmen for 2008 'Jungle Safari' Diabetes Event

Wellington, FL - January 7, 2008 - Organizers of the 2008 "Jungle Safari" diabetes fundraiser are pleased to announce that Mr. and Mrs. Lou Jacobs have been named honorary chairmen for this prestigious annual event.

The event will benefit the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and will be held on March 1, 2008, at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, FL. Wellington residents Ashley and Joe Maguire are again the event's chairmen, and they are being assisted with the planning for the event by a committee consisting of many high profile members of the local community.

The Jacobs reside in both East Aurora, NY, and Wellington, FL, where they are active competitors during the winter equestrian circuit. Both Joan and Lou, in addition to their daughter, Charlotte, are frequent visitors to the winners circle for Deeridge Farm, which is their family farm. Their son, Louis, also rides recreationally.

"We are very pleased to be named honorary chairmen of 'Jungle Safari,' as both Lou and I believe this is an excellent cause," Mrs. Jacobs explained. "The beneficiary, the DRI, is an extremely progressive organization, and the strides they are making toward finding a cure for diabetes are remarkable."

She continued, "With the number of Americans and people around the world affected by diabetes growing at an exponential rate, research organizations like the DRI need our support. By joining this event, we hope to bring the DRI one step closer to reaching their goals."

Mr. Jacobs is executive vice president of Delaware North Companies, which is a global leader in hospitality and food service and one of the largest privately held companies in the United States with more than $2.0 billion in annual revenue and 50,000 associates serving one half of a billion customers in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

"Jungle Safari" will be held on March 1, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, in Wellington, FL. The evening will include cocktails, dinner, dancing, fantastic silent and live auctions and much more, including surprises from the jungle!

The Diabetes Research Institute, a center of excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is a recognized world leader in cure-focused research. Since its inception in the early 1970s, the DRI has made significant contributions to the field of diabetes research, pioneering many of the techniques used in islet transplantation. From innovations in islet isolation and transplant procedures to advances in cell biology and immunology, the DRI is now harnessing the power of emerging technologies to develop new cell-based therapies to restore insulin production.
