Joe Putnam and Colonels Classy Cash Win 2008 NRCHA Stakes Non Pro Two Rein Championship

Joe Putnam, of Burlingame, California, earned the National Reined Cow Horse Association Non Pro Two Rein Championship on Colonels Classy Cash. He took home a check for $750, and a C.R. Morrison trophy.

Putnam purchased the 6-year-old gelding through Ken Wold a couple of years ago, but personal reasons kept Putnam away from the show pen. In fact, this is the first time he has shown the horse!

“I think that the break helped him freshen up,” explained Putnam. “This is exciting to win the first time we’ve shown. After this, I just plan to keep showing him!”

Colonels Classy Cash is by former NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Nu Cash, and out of Tangy Cha Cha, by Tangys Classy Peppy.

Laurie Ward rode Miss Smokin It to the Non Pro Two Rein reserve title, earning $450. The talented mare was actually two-for-two, as she won another Reserve title earlier in the day with Laurie’s husband, John. Miss Smokin It is by the couple’s talented stallion, Smart Little Pepinic, and out of Miss Smokin Leo.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner family that includes Wayne Hodges 4-Star Trailers and Outlaw Conversions, Bob's Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, Gist Silversmiths, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Quarter Horse News & Performance Horse magazine, the Peppermill Hotel/Resort, Fort Dodge West Nile Innovator, Rios of Mercedes, Merial products ULCERGARD and GASTROGARD, Great American Insurance Company and the Silver Legacy Hotel, the association works to keep the vaquero tradition alive in today’s equine industry.
