It's A Love Affair for Julia Lourie and Vivaldi as They Capture the Blue in the High Amateur Owner/Junior Jumper Classic

Lexington, KY- August 10, 2008- Today concluded the Kentucky Summer Classic at The Kentucky Horse Park. Many classes wrapped up today, including the High Amateur Owner/Junior Jumper Classic. The sun shone down on the Walnut Arena, while six horse and rider combinations vied for first place honors. Coming away with the blue was Julia Lourie and Vivaldi, owned by Spy Coast Farm of East Setauket, NY.

Lourie and Vivaldi were one of two pairs to go double clean, and did so in a time of 40.018. "That horse is the love of my life," Lourie exclaimed. "I give all the credit to him. I had a couple jumps that I didn't help him out as much as I could have, but he covered up all the mistakes I made."

After jumping clear in the first round, Lourie was determined to go in the jump-off and win. "I just had a go at it in the jump-off and took a chance. I was second last week and I didn't want to be second again," said Lourie.

The jump-off course consisted of fences 1,2,3,4,12A, 12B, and 13. Fence The course started with a vertical, turning left to a blue and green oxer, followed by a right hand turn to a natural colored oxer. The fourth fence was the stonewall followed by a blue and white two-stride combination. The combination was a vertical to an oxer. The last fence was a colorful oxer going away from the in-gate.

Second place honors went to Tracey Weinberg and Linda Z, owned by Tracey Weinberg and The Weinberg Brokerage Group of Lovettsville, VA. They were the only other pair to go double clear, and did so in a time of 42.629. Third went to Outline and Jennifer Waxman of Chagrin Falls, OH. They completed the jump-off in the fastest time, 34.020 but had a rail down at fence 3, a natural colored oxer. Fourth place was awarded to Magigue Des Vaux and Samantha Tuerk of Wellington, FL. They finished in a time of 36.358, taking down the same rail as Waxman. Coming back to pick up the pink ribbon was Tracey Weinberg. This time Weinberg was aboard Larone, owned by Tracey Weinberg and The Weinberg Brokerage Group of Lovettsville, VA. Their time was 36.954 with a knockdown at fence 4, the stonewall. Rounding out the jump-off, in sixth place, was Alicia Gamboa and Firewater, owned by WCEC LLC of Coral Springs, FL. The pair finished the course in 45.288 seconds, and had some trouble at fences 2, 4, and 12B.

Lourie has been riding Vivaldi for two years now. She found the striking ten-year-old Belgian Warmblood at the show grounds in Wellington, FL. It was love at first sight. "I showed him once in the children's and moved up to the junior's. He's my rock. He's brought me up to everywhere I've gone. My trainer, Shane Sweetnam, suggested I ride this horse, and it's the only time I've ever fallen in love," Lourie smiled.

Lourie enjoys coming to Kentucky to compete. "We love the show, we love the show grounds, it's good competition, good prize money, and we just love Kentucky," raved Lourie. Her and Vivaldi's next stop will be The Hampton Classic at the end of the month.

The Kentucky Horse Park will host the 2008 Pony Finals next week, followed by the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show and the KHJA Horse Show.
