Equestrian News Release
Westlake Village, CA- October 11- The team from Karen Healey Stables had the opportunity to show this year at the Foxfield Medal Finals and Jumping Derby at the Foxfield Riding School on October 8-9, 2005.
The Foxfield Medal Finals is held for amateur riders every year and is a special event. Three top amateur riders from Karen Healey Stables placed in the top five in their divisions at the competitive event.
In the 36 & Over division, Yvette Lang-Einczig of Malibu, CA placed second, and Alison Lajoie was third in the 18-35 division. These finishes in their division put them in fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the overall competition. Also in the 36 & Over division was Donna French, who rode Karin Binz’s Scenic to a fifth place finish.
This year was the 26th annual Foxfield Jumping Derby. The derby is a long course that consists of twenty obstacles. The course starts in the jumping ring with traditional fences and then moves out to cross country jumps. The cross country part of the course had innovative jumps, such as ditches, stone walls, banks, and open water.
The Foxfield Jumping Derby is one of the few events of its kind in the United States and draws some of the top jumper riders in Southern California. There is a derby in the morning held for junior and amateur riders that is 3’6”- 3’9” in height. The afternoon derby is open to professionals and is increased in height to 3’9”-4’.
In the Calabasas Saddlery Junior/Amateur Derby, second place went to 15 year old Torie Immel of Newport Beach, California and her horse Regal. Karen Healey Stables’ assistant trainer Kasey Ament rode Fred Bauer’s Hampton Court to third place in the Foxfield Derby.
On the other side of the country, Karen Healey herself weathered the elements as the judge of the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search East Coast Finals. Along with Conrad Homfeld, Healey designed the gymnastic and jumping phases of the Final and picked its winner. “It was unbelievably fun. Conrad and I were on the same page in regards to quality of the rounds and our opinions on what was important in the rides,” she commented. “It was a great weekend, and I had a wonderful time.”
Karen Healey will be joined by a few riders who are making the trip to the East Coast at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA, from October 13-22. Back home in California, a team of riders will compete at the Showpark Fall Festival on October 13-16.
