Karen Healey Named Hunter/Equitation Horseman of the Year by The Chronicle of the Horse

Westlake Village, CA - February 8, 2008 - Karen Healey of Westlake Village, CA, has been named the "Hunter/Equitation Horseman of the Year" by The Chronicle of the Horse. Healey had one of her best years ever as a trainer in 2007 and was honored for her success.

Karen Healey Stables is based in Westlake Village, CA, just north of Los Angeles. She and her students competed in California and traveled to the East Coast in the fall to compete in the indoor final circuit of horse shows.

Some of her students' accomplishments in 2007 include:

* USEF/Pessoa Medal Finals - 2nd Hannah Selleck, 3rd Tina DiLandri, 4th Shelby Wakeman

* ASPCA Maclay National Championship - 3rd Shelby Wakeman, 4th Carly Anthony, 6th Michelle Morris

* Tad Coffin WIHS Equitation Classic - 2nd Tina DiLandri

* USET Show Jumping Talent Search Finals West Coast - 2nd Tina DiLandri, 3rd Alison LaJoie, 4th Michelle Morris, 5th Carly Anthony, 8th Shelby Wakeman

* WCE Junior/Amateur Medal Finals - 1st Tina DiLandri, 2nd Yvette Lang-Einczig

* CPHA Adult Medal Finals and USEF Adult Equitation National Standings- 1st Yvette Lang-Einczig

* Show Jumping Hall of Fame West Coast Junior Jumper Standings - 1st Chanel 292 and Tina DiLandri

* Show Jumping Hall of Fame West Coast Amateur-Owner Jumper Standings- 1st Puma and Lindsey Ramar

In addition to her students' success in the show ring, Healey is an instrumental force in the administration of equestrian sport. She is a USEF R-rated judge and held the card this year at the Devon Horse Show and the Hampton Classic Horse Show. She has also judged twice at the USEF Pony Finals and USEF Show Jumping Talent Search East Coast Finals.

She is the chairman of the USHJA Equitation Committee and serves on the USHJA Open Hunter Task Force, the USHJA Officials Education Committee, the USHJA High Performance Hunter Committee, and the USHJA Trainer's Certification Committee. She is a board member for the American Hunter Jumper Foundation.

Healey was honored to receive the recognition. "It's a tremendous honor," she said. "It was quite unexpected, but I'm very thrilled. It's a huge recognition."

She gave thanks to the horses, her students, their families, and her support staff: Melissa Jones, Kasey Ament and Amanda Ballew.
