Samantha Harrison Rides to the Win in Rosewood and L.A. Medal Finals

Samantha Harrison Rides to the Win in Rosewood and L.A. Medal Finals
Burbank, CA – September 7, 2006 – While head trainer Karen Healey took a much needed vacation this past week, assistant trainers Kasey Ament and Melissa Jones led the team of riders at the Gold Coast Series Horse Show 6, held August 31- September 3 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA.

Samantha Harrison of La Cañada, CA, and her horse Fred Astaire had a fantastic weekend. She led the victory gallop with wins in the Rosewood Medal Finals and the L.A. Medal Finals. The pair also won the ASPCA Maclay Horsemanship class. It was another win in the Rosewood Medal Finals for Karen Healey Stables, whose dominance in the class leads back to 1983 when Meredith Michaels, now Michaels-Beerbaum, won the class. It was also won in 1999 by assistant trainer Ament.

The historical win was especially nice for those at Karen Healey Stables who remember when Michaels-Beerbaum was a top rider in California and trained with Healey. At the recent World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, Michaels-Beerbaum (now a German citizen after her marriage to Markus Beerbaum) won the individual bronze medal in Show Jumping.

Jones commented, “They made a big deal about her win in the class. It was really nice for the kids to see where a win in the Finals could take you.”

Hannah Selleck of Thousand Oaks, CA, traveled to the Hampton Classic Horse Show in New York to compete. She trained for the week with Olympic gold medalist Leslie Howard and rode her horse Bauer to top ribbons in the Junior Jumpers.

In the $5,000 Junior Jumper (1.40m) class, Selleck and Bauer took home sixth place over 28 other competitors. They improved their results in the $15,000 WGHR Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic when they placed fourth.
