Karen Healey Stables Continues to Dominate at Summer California Shows

Thousand Oaks, CA- August 15- It has been a busy three weeks for the riders of Karen Healey Stables. They have traveled across the state, from Del Mar to Huntington Beach, to Atherton and San Juan Capistrano, and won everywhere along the way.
At the Showpark Racing Festival in Del Mar, CA, on July 27-31, Mary Ann Weisberg-Perry of Burbank, CA, continued her string of victories in the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over division. She and the flawless bay gelding, Country Grammar, racked up three wins and a second place to win the reserve championship.
Stephanie Mazer and her horse, Count Gregory, rode to the win in all five of their classes and the championship in the Low Amateur-Owner Hunter division. Alison Lajoie and Spa Sciences Luna 2 dashed to the win a High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper class, and Lajoie piloted Lady Aisha to a second place finish in a Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper class.
Lauren Hester of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, was the sole participant at the California Coast Horse Show held on August 3-6 at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center in Huntington Beach, CA. Hester and her solid equitation horse, Timeless, came away with the win in the USEF Talent Search, the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Equitation Classic, and the WCE Medal.
This past week, Hester competed at the Oaks Blenheim Summer Classic I in San Juan Capistrano. She and Timeless paired again to finish second in the USEF Talent Search and fourth in the WIHS Equitation Classic.
Also on August 9-14, competitors from Karen Healey Stables traveled to Atherton, CA, to show at the Menlo Charity Horse Show. Weisberg-Perry and Country Grammar did it again, as they finished first, second, third, third, and fourth in the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over division. These top ribbons gave them the championship. The pair also competed in the Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic and finished in third place.
The World Championship Hunter Rider Awards for the Southwest region were also announced this past week. Mary Ann Weisberg-Perry finished at the top of the list in the Amateur division.
In the professional divisions, Jenny Karazissis of Calabasas, CA, cleaned up with LRW Farm’s Touchstone. The striking chestnut finished with a win, a second, and two third place finishes to pick up the tricolor in the Second Year Green Hunter division. They then went on to win four out of five classes for the championship in the Regular Working Hunter division.
“He’s the ideal horse,” Karazissis related. “It’s difficult to describe him, but he is very scopey, adjustable and uncomplicated. He pretty much does what I ask, and he gives you such a good feeling over the jump.”
Karazissis and Touchstone worked together at Indio of last year. They picked up on their partnership again at The Oaks Blenheim this spring, and Karazissis commented that he has been champion every time they have been together. This week at Menlo, they also finished third in the $10,000 Open Hunter Challenge.
Karen Healey Stables will continue showing this week in San Juan Capistrano at the Oaks Blenheim Summer Classic II.
