Karen Healey Stables' Tina DiLandri Wins Junior Jumper Championship at Washington International

DiLandri Finishes as Reserve Champion in WIHS Equitation Finals

Washington, D.C. - October 16, 2007 - It was a banner week for Karen Healey Stables at the Washington International Horse Show. The group from California made a big impact at the East Coast horse show. Leading the way was 15-year-old Tina DiLandri of La Jolla, CA. She and Chanel 292 won the Junior Jumper championship, and DiLandri piloted RSVP to second place in the WIHS Tad Coffin Performance Saddle Equitation Finals.

DiLandri has ridden Chanel 292, an eight-year-old Westphalian mare, for less than a year. "She's not even 16 hands tall, but she has a huge heart and can jump!" DiLandri described.

In the Junior Jumper division, DiLandri started out strong with a second place finish in the opening $2,500 class. She followed that with a sixth place in the speed class. She solidified the tricolor performance with victory in the $10,000 Senator's Cup class. DiLandri went first in the jump-off, won the class, and brought home her first championship ribbon from Washington.

"Chanel was amazing," DiLandri said. "She did not have any rails the entire week. I was ecstatic to go clear in the Senator's Cup. When I went in for the jump-off, it was no guts, no glory. We made up time in the turns. Afterwards, I was sitting on the edge of my chair watching the end of the class." This is DiLandri's first year showing in the High Junior Jumper division, so "just to qualify for Washington was a goal in itself," she said.

In the WIHS Tad Coffin Performance Saddle Equitation Finals, DiLandri rode RSVP, her equitation partner. The pair put in a solid round in the hunter phase for a score of 87. They placed second in the jumper phase with a score of 87.333, and were in third place going into the work-off. The top ten riders were asked back for the work-off, where they rode a course on another rider's horse.

DiLandri returned on The General, who was Molly Braswell's original ride. DiLandri had a smooth and very well executed course. The judges rewarded her with a score of 88.666, and she ended up as the reserve champion in the class. "The General was a saint and was amazing to ride. He went in one rhythm the whole time. I was extremely happy to be in the top ten, so this exceeded my expectations," she stated.

"Without Karen Healey and everyone at Karen Healey Stables, I would not have gotten to where I have this year," DiLandri stated. "Thanks also to Kerritts Riding Clothes for sponsoring me."

Another big winner this week was Tammy Chipko of Thousand Oaks. She rode All That to the reserve championship in the Amateur-Owner Over 35 division. They were third and fourth over fences and won the highly competitive stake class. Their high score in the stake class was the Overall Amateur-Owner Stake High Score Winner. In addition to that impressive showing, Chipko and All That won ribbons in the Regular Working Hunters.

Their reserve championship title qualified them for the $15,000 WIHS High Performance Hunter Classic, a special competition that brought champions from the professional, junior, and amateur divisions together to show over natural jumps. Chipko and All That had a solid first round and returned for a great second round and a score of 86. They placed fifth in the prestigious class.

Shelby Wakeman and Archie Cox's My Cap picked up fourth and sixth place ribbons over fences in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters, while Macy Grey and Skylar Nelson were third in the Medium Pony Hunter under saddle.

Karen Healey Stables will compete next at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA, on October 18-27, 2007.
