Karen Healey Stables’ Rider Edrick Third in USEF Talent Search West Coast Finals, Hester Wins USEF Medal Zone Regionals

Burbank, CA- September 26- At the L.A. International Horse Show on September 21-25, 2005, the riders from Karen Healey Stables did equally well in the equitation, jumpers, and hunters.

The highlight of the week was the USEF Talent Search West Coast Finals. Healey concluded, “It was a great finals. The course was wonderful, and the results were right.” Megan Edrick rode Torie Immel’s Regal to third place. “Megan had some really good trips,” Healey commented. “The jumping phase was very testing.”

In fourth place was Hannah Selleck on Bates Equestrian’s Europa Eins. Selleck is only showing as a 15 year old, but she showed maturity beyond her years in the competitive class. Selleck also trains regularly with Nicole Shahinian Simpson.

In her first USEF Talent Search Finals, Veronica Tracy rode Guns N’ Roses to a ninth place finish. Veteran Lauren Hester piloted Timeless to tenth place, while Alexandra Conforti was eleventh on The Graduate. “Lauren had an unlucky rail, and Alex’s horse was difficult, but both girls rode wonderfully,” said Healey.

Hester had no trouble with rails when she rode K2 to the win in the USEF Hunter Seat Zone 8, 9, & 10 Medal Regionals. “She was very solid and consistent all the way through,” Healey commented.

The Zone Medal Regionals consisted of three jumping rounds, where the top 25% came back for the third round. From there, the top four riders were asked to return for a work-off. Hester was in fourth place after round one, but she moved up to first place in round two and never looked back. “She kept laying down round after round,” Healey explained. “She has been absolutely solid all fall.”

In the USEF Hunter Seat Zone 8, 9, & 10 Medal Regionals, Yvette Lang-Einczig and Raul finished in fourth place. Lang-Einczig also finished first and second in the Equitation 36 & Over jumping classes.

Callen Sheller and Lavall came away with the win in the L.A. Senior Medal, while Torie Immel was the victorious overall in the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic.

Representing the jumpers this past week was Alison Lajoie, who had two major wins. In the $2,500 Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, she dashed to first place on Lady Aisha and also placed third on Northstar. She then switched over to the $5,000 Junior/Young Rider/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, where she piloted Spa Sciences’ Lynas 2 to the win.

Like a good broken record, it was once again Country Grammar and Mary Ann Weisberg-Perry who walked away with the tricolor in the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunters. The championship came after they won all five classes in the division. Assistant trainer/rider Kasey Ament also rode Country Grammar to first and second place finishes in the High Open Hunters.

Karen Healey Stables will be doing double duty next week, as some riders will travel to Flintridge Autumn Classic on September 30- October 2, and others will cross the country to compete at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, Maryland on October 1-9.
