Katherine Newman Perseveres for Blue Ribbon Wins at Bluegrass Festival Horse Show

Lexington, KY - August 27, 2008 - This past week, Katherine Newman of Allwyn Court Farm was unstoppable at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show in Lexington, KY. The 17-year-old rider from Wellington, FL, prevailed for impressive ribbons in the hunter, jumper, and equitation divisions. She also accrued top honors with a few new catch-rides.

In the High Junior Jumpers, Newman piloted Chellapo Z for the owner, Mimi Abel-Smith. The pair came home with notable ribbons and the reserve championship. "Chellapo Z was awesome," smiled Newman. "On Thursday, he had a double clear round and was second. He won first place on Saturday with another double clear round and was ninth in the classic."

The young rider competed aboard La Coretto in the WIHS Equitation class and scored first place overall. La Coretto is owned by Comfortside Farm. "In the jumper phase, I scored an 80," she said. "I received a 90 in the hunter phase and won overall! It was a new ride for me, but he was really nice. He was very simple and smooth." She also showed Goodtime for Lauren Patava in the USEF Medal, and the pair received the second place ribbon. "I had never ridden him before either; he was very easy and reliable."

In the Small Junior 16-17 Hunter division, Newman competed with Pirate and Lifetime Guarantee. Pirate, owned by Boggs Hill, took home the blue ribbon with a high score of 89. He was also third, fourth, and seventh. Lifetime Guarantee, owned by Robert Cole, captured a third, two fourths, and two sevenths.

Newman showed V. Mavec LLC's horse Pacemaker in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters and won four first place ribbons. "It was my first time showing him, and he was really fun to ride," reported Newman. "He was different from the horses I usually show because he doesn't go in a frame, but I loved riding him." Along with winning four classes, Pacemaker was second over fences and champion of the older Large Junior division.

"I also showed Pirate and Pacemaker in the Junior/Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic," Newman added. "Pirate had scores of 88 and 83, and Pacemaker had an 85 in the first round and an 82 in the second round. They both were great." Pirate came home with an exciting blue ribbon win in the classic, and Pacemaker followed in second place.

In addition to her success with her junior hunters, Newman received awards in the Unrestricted Childrens/Adult Hunter division. She rode Intermezzo for the owner, Lucy Blundon. Newman added another tricolor to her collection when she and Intermezzo finished with the reserve championship. They pinned first and second over fences, and they also took home two fifths and an eighth place.

Katherine Newman will compete again this week at the KHJA Horse Show in Lexington, KY. She will continue to show the horses at Allwyn Court and any additional catch-rides.
