Katherine Newman Garners Triple Tricolors at Horse Shows By the Bay I

Traverse City, MI - July 22, 2008 - Katherine Newman of Wellington, FL, came away with three tricolor ribbons this past week at Horse Shows By the Bay I, which was held in Traverse City, MI, from July 16-20, 2008. Seventeen-year-old Newman took home two championships and one reserve championship in the older junior hunter divisions. She trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry, at their Florida-based farm Allwyn Court.

In the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters, the young rider piloted Lifetime Guarantee to two first place ribbons and three third places, securing the division championship. Lifetime Guarantee is owned by Lisa McKee-Cole. She also rode Pirate in the small juniors for the owner, Shaw Johnson Price.

"Last week was a very good week," smiled Newman. "Lifetime Guarantee went very well. I had never shown Pirate before, but we won both classes on Friday! On the second day, he was first and fifth over fences and sixth in the under saddle. He has a long stride and a really nice jump. He was quite fun to ride." Pirate and Newman finished with the reserve championship in the older Small Junior Hunters.

In the Large Junior 16-17 Hunter division, she showcased All The Answers for Sherri Crawford. "On the first day, he was third and seventh," commented Newman. "On Friday, he won the under saddle and both over fences classes." With their three consecutive blue ribbons, Newman and her mount sealed the championship award for the division. "This was our third and best show so far," she noted. "He was really, really good, especially on the second day."

Newman also competed in the jumper ring and rode Gemini De Terlong and Chellapo Z in the Low Junior Jumper Classic. Mimi Abel-Smith's Chellapo Z scored an impressive second place finish, while Gemini De Terlong, owned by Lisa Mckee-Cole, took sixth. "Both horses were clear in the first round and came back for the jump-off," stated Newman. "Gemini was very good, but she had one rail and finished in sixth place. Chellapo was clear and fast! I was really happy with how both of them went."

Newman will compete next at Horse Shows By the Bay II, scheduled for the week of July 23-27, 2008, in Traverse City, MI.
