Katherine Newman Excels for Junior Hunter Tricolors and USEF Hunt Seat Medal Win at CN Winter Equestrian Festival

Wellington, FL - February 4, 2008 - Sixteen-year-old Katherine Newman proved victorious this past week at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL. The talented rider resides in Wellington and trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry, at their farm Allwyn Court. Newman competes in the junior jumpers, the junior hunters, and in equitation classes, and she often catch-rides horses for other owners and trainers.

Last week Newman showed a horse named Aspirant in the equitation classes for grand prix rider Lauren Hough. She came away with top honors and the blue ribbon in the USEF Hunt Seat Medal. "He was awesome," smiled Newman. "It was only his second week ever showing in the equitation." In addition to winning the Medal, Newman scored a 90 in the hunter phase of the Washington International Horse Show Equitation class and was second overall. She also took home third place in the ASPCA Maclay and seventh in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search.

In the hunter ring, Newman piloted two Large Junior Hunters, and she triumphed for both the championship and the reserve tricolor. She catch-rode Boulevard Deir for Tim Goguen and owner Janet Read, and the pair performed beautifully in the show ring.

"Boulevard Deir was great," commented Newman. "He won all three classes on Saturday and was champion. He was really fun to show." She also rode Zenith to the reserve championship in the same division for owners Jay Matter and Dee Thomas. "Zenith also went really, really well," she added. "He was second, third, and fourth over fences and pinned third in the hack. It was great for him to finish up reserve [champion]."

Newman competed aboard Without Doubt, also owned by Matter and Thomas, in the Small Junior16-17 Hunters. "He was very good on Saturday," she noted. "He won the first class and was sixth in the second class." She concluded, "This was a great week. I got to show some really nice horses, and it felt great to win good ribbons with them."

Katherine Newman will continue to show at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival, which will be held in Wellington until April 6, 2008. She will compete with the horses from Allwyn Court and additional catch-rides from other trainers.
