Kelly Klein & Oz Successful in Adult Amateur Hunters

WELLINGTON, Fla., Mar. 14-- Kelly Klein and Oz scored two double blue ribbon rounds in the Adult Amateur Hunters 51 and Over Section A at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising Friday.

Klein of Bridgehampton, N.Y. and the nine-year-old chestnut gelding placed first out of 23 riders in both over fences classes. Klein rides with trainer Charlie Weaver also of Bridgehampton.

"He is a great horse," Kelly said, "very straightforward, confident and super consistent. He is such a pleasure to ride and gives me the confidence I need."

The red ribbon in the second trip over fences was awarded to Barbara Borg of Congers, N.Y. and the six-year-old bay gelding, Sun Phoenix. Borg rides with trainer Jagger Topping of Long Island, N.Y.

Second place in the second trip over fences went to Lynn Rogers also of Long Island, and the 12-year-old bay gelding, Fileas. Fileas is owned by Lynn and her daughter, Beth Rogers of Fairfield, Conn. She rides with trainer Shane Sweetnam of Cork, Ireland.

The mother and daughter team have been sharing the rides on Fileas since they bought him five years ago from Ralph Caristo. The family took last year off for medical reasons, but this season Fileas is helping Lynn make a comeback with his consistency in the ribbons all circuit.

"He is very steady and dependable," Lynn said. "He used to be a jumper so every once in a while he gets fast, but if I do my job he is right there for me. He is such a great horse. We consider him a member of the family. This horse has the personality of a golden retriever trapped in a horse's body. We will never part with him. He will retire in our backyard."

The older Adult Amateur Hunters will complete their division with the pinning of champion and reserve in the Grand Hunter Field on Saturday.
