Kentucky Horse Shows LLC Installs Brand New Footing in Main Hunter Rings

Lexington, KY - May 6, 2009 - Kentucky Horse Shows LLC, hosted the first day of competition for the 2009 Kentucky Spring Horse Show series today, and although it rained steadily, the state-of-the-art footing in both the hunter and jumper rings allowed competition to go on smoothly. The Kentucky Horse Park's scenic facility will host two weeks of competition, the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, May 6-10, and the Kentucky Spring Classic, May 13-17.

Kentucky Horse Shows LLC, is the management company for hunter/jumper competitions held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, and they recently resurfaced the main hunter ring, the Stonelea Ring, and large hunter schooling ring with state-of-the-art footing. The new high-tech surfaces are designed by the German company OTTO Sport- und Reitplatz GmbH and held up perfectly in today's rainy conditions.

Last year the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation installed the OTTO Sport footing in the Walnut Ring and adjacent warm-up area, significantly improving the competition for jumper riders. This year business partners Hugh Kincannon and Robbie Murphy donated their own money to improve the footing for the Stonelea Ring and schooling area as well.

"The footing keeps the riders and the horses safe and we felt that the hunters deserved an equal shot," Murphy said. "We try to do a good job of making sure that our in gates talk to each other and manage things well, and then we try to make sure that the rings are the quality to keep the horses and riders safe. The new footing makes life great and we like to give back because the Kentucky Horse Park has been good to us."

The OTTO Riding Arena Mat system is especially valued for its safety properties and outstanding drainage features and Murphy explained how it works. "With the new footing the water pulls everything straight down to the mat system and under and it all just gets flattened back down," he said. "I think that with this footing the weather will not bother people as much and I think that it has already proven produce fewer injuries. The mat system that we use here takes 40% of the concussion because when the horse lands the mats give a little bit; it is shock absorbent."

After the first day of competition for the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, Murphy was pleased with the response from competitors. "It has been great. Everyone has been talking about the new stadium and the footing and they are just in awe of it," he said. "We are very happy to have that group of riders here and we think it is only going to get better with the more improvements that are to come."

The new footing in the Walnut Ring was provided by the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, and funds for the outdoor main stadium were supplied by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as part of new construction related to the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and future events at the park. With top of the line footing in the hunter and jumper rings and a convenient indoor arena, Kentucky Horse Shows now provide exhibitors with a stellar show experience regardless of weather conditions.
