Kentucky Spring Horse Shows Attracts Nation's Premiere Hunter and Jumper Riders

Lexington, KY - April 23, 2009 - The nation's leading hunter and jumper riders will return once again to the newly renovated Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY for the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows series to compete for top honors during this prestigious event. The show features two exciting weeks of competition, the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, scheduled for the week of May 6-10, 2009, and the Kentucky Spring Classic held from May 13-17, 2009.

The Kentucky Spring Horse Show series features the Hagyard Challenge Series, including the $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus, which has attracted top show jumpers such as Pablo Barrios, Margie Engle, Mario Deslauriers, Anne Kursinski and Debbie Stephens. The Hagyard Challenge Series includes two $30,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, CSI 2* grand prix events, with the first being held on Thursday, May 7, and the second on Thursday, May 14.

The Kentucky Spring Horse Show will also feature the $55,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix, CSI 2* on May 10, and the Kentucky Spring Classic will feature the $55,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix, CSI 2* sponsored by Air 51 and Audi of Lexington, held on Sunday, May 17. The Kentucky Spring Horse Show will also include riders that competed in this year's FEI Rolex World Cup Finals, such as Beezie Madden, Todd Minikus, Christine McCrea, and Kent Farrington.

The grand prix classes will all be taking place in the new outdoor stadium, which will be used in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. The stadium has been resurfaced with the OTTO Sport footing system, which received rave reviews after being installed in the Walnut Arena before last year's Kentucky Summer Horse Shows.

Top hunter riders such as Peter Pletcher, Havens Schatt, Avery Dimmig, Tim Goguen, Maggie Jayne, Cookie Beck, Rob Bielefeld, and Ken Smith will also have the opportunity to experience the new OTTO Sport footing system, which was recently installed in the main hunter ring, the Stonelea Arena, and the main hunter hunter schooling ring.

The first week of competition, the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, is a World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) recognized hunter competition. The WCHR is an awards program started by the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation, and the awards are presented, on both a national and regional level, to Pony, Junior, Amateur, Professional, Adult and Children's hunter riders who accumulate the most points at WCHR designated horse shows throughout the year.

The Kentucky Spring Horse Show will also feature the $15,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA Hunter Derby, being held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, in the Walnut Arena.

The Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, held at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park, attracts top competitors because it offers excellent stabling, plenty of exercise rings and spacious place to ride, miles of trails, and lush cross country fields.
