Kimberly Tillman and Im Genuinely Smart Win 2008 SWRHA Rookie

Kimberly Tillman was all smiles after winning the Rookie class for the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Horse Show. She partnered with her horse, Im Genuinely Smart, to mark a 71.5, earning the title, $100, a plaque, and a special yellow mini 4-Wheeler, compliments of the SWRHA.

“The run felt great. Smarty (Im Genuinely Smart) felt in tune the whole time. When I finished my last stop I was really happy,” noted Tillman. “I’m pretty excited. The prizes are awesome. I really want to thank the SWRHA for putting on a great show, and for giving such great prizes.”

The Tioga, Texas, competitor began showing reiners four years ago, thanks to her trainer, John O’Hara. “He got me involved with Quarter Horses. I loved their power, temperament, and build. I sent him on a search for one five years ago, and he found Smarty as a 2-year-old,” explained Tillman. “John has trained and shown him for the past six years.”

Im Genuinely Smart, by Smart Little Lena out of Genuine Holly Bars, has lifetime earnings exceeding $18,000. According to his owner, the easy-going stallion has a home for life. “He’s quiet and great minded, and he always gives 100%. I love this horse – he has the biggest heart.”

Tillman, who is a network sales consultant for AT&T, is leading the SWRHA Rookie division on Smarty, and this win helped increase that point spread. Tillman thanked her trainer, John O’Hara, and Ann Salmon. “Ann has been great, and coaching me. I came to a rookie day, and she has really helped me with my weaknesses,” she said.

Tying for the Reserve title was Jennie Germany on Loud Spurs, and Jean Piper with Tougher Than The Rest. Both marked scores of 71, and flipped a coin to decide who would take home a saddle pad from Kyle Tack, and a beautiful framed picture.

The SWRHA Futurity is held annually at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. It ran from October 21-October 26, and paid out $244,593 over the course of the show.
