KWPN-NA Annual Meeting Features John Madden, Geoff Teall and Scott Hassler

Sutherlin, OR—The Dutch Warmblood Studbook of North America (KWPN-NA) is pleased to announce the line-up of speakers at its 20th Annual Meeting to be held in Wellington, Florida, March 6-8, 2008. The three-day event features some of the greatest movers and shakers in the sport, including John Madden, Geoff Teall and Scott Hassler. These exciting interactive workshops are just part of the festivities and educational opportunities available.

“Our goal is to provide useful information and the chance for breeders, trainers and owners to ask a lot of questions of our European and North American experts,” says Annual Meeting organizer Silvia Monas. “There’s lots of time for discussing our favorite subject—KWPN horses—in a fun and relaxed setting!”

The Annual Meeting kicks off on Thursday with committee reports and lectures, but the fun really gets started that evening with the welcome reception. Munchies and libations will be served. This is the perfect icebreaker for newcomers and a chance to see your Internet friends in person.

Friday morning legendary John Madden will offer his insights into young jumpers. This workshop will take place at the Young Jumpers competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival. Mr. Madden will explain conformation and the talent and skills expected for the five and six-year-old jumper classes. He will also detail what qualities riders are looking for in a jumper prospect, how to show your young jumper to prospective buyers and how to prepare your youngster for showing and sale.

In the afternoon, the group will shift their focus to the hunter world with renowned expert and author Geoff Teall. Mr. Teall will share his wisdom during a hands-on demonstration of the qualities of a great hunter, touching on both conformation and the manner of jumping. He will also be available for questions and to talk about the direction in which the sport is headed.

As if that were not enough, Saturday kicks off with U.S. Young Horse Coach Scott Hassler. He will conduct a training session with a group of horses ranging from four to eight years in age. Mr. Hassler will offer advice on which performance track is appropriate for different types of horses, while showcasing the skills and strengths needed for each. Monas continues, “The goal for this day is to help breeders, riders and trainers evaluate the potential of their young dressage horses.”

The Annual Meeting culminates with the awards dinner and silent auction on Saturday evening. The recipients of the Gert van der Veen Member of the Year, Breeder of the Year and the Horse of the Year awards, among others, will be honored.

Other speakers scheduled include Dr. Deborah P. Harrison, Faith Fessenden, Jacques Verkerk and KWPN Director Johan Knaap. Members and non-members are welcome for all events. The cost is just $150 for all three days for pre-registered members or $200 for non-members and walk-ins. A full schedule and sign-up forms will be available in January at the website http://www.kwpn-na.org.
