LAEC Opener Has Record Entries and Lots of New Faces

Burbank, CA - Langer Equestrian Group, Inc. jumped into the new year with record entries at the LAEC Opener (January 20-22). The USEF "A" rated show attracted over 300 horses and riders to the first major show of the new year. "We've had really great weather and I think that everyone could get their horses out and were looking forward to a nice show," said LEG President Larry Langer.

The new show season attracts new faces and new horses. Twelve year old Taylor Maniscalchi rode a new pony she began leasing in the Child Pony Hunters. Maniscalchi and Brighton Boast a Bit clinched the reserve championship when the pair won the final over fence class. "This pony is state of art!" announced Maniscalchi. Trainer Randy Durand was happy with his young student's success. "Taylor has been riding with me for about a month and she has made a lot of progress. She is a great kid to work with."

Archie Cox found another winner to add to his string of top open, junior and amateur hunters. He bought the handsome eight year old warmblood, Quality Time, from Cynthia Williams. "It is really great," said Cox "because Cynthia was my trainer when I was a junior." Cox showed Quality Time to the championship in the Second Year Green and owner Laura Wasserman took over riding duties in the Modified Junior/Amateur Hunters and the Amateur Owner 36 & Over Hunters. Wasserman was champion with her veteran Jimmie Choo in the Modified Jr/Am section, and reserve champion with Quality Time. She was also reserve champion with Jimmy Choo in the Amateur Owner section. Both Wasserman and Cox are excited about Quality Time. "He has all the qualities you could ask for," explained Cox. "He has movement and jumping style and he has a great attitude to be an amateur horse. He has huge scope."

Allison Van Sickle showed her new equitation horse, Valiant, and under Jeni Brown's tutelage she won the CPHA Junior Medal and finished second in the USEF Junior Medal. She also rode her two jumpers, Amazing Grace and Blue Bayou, to consistent ribbons in the Junior/ Amateur Owner Jumpers.

“This has been great,” she said. “I’ve been having so much fun, and the competition is wonderful. And,” she added, “My horse has been astounding.”

Exhibitors enjoyed sunny skies throughout the three day horse show. The next LEG show is Gold Coast 1 (February 17-19), the first of the seven show Gold Coast Series.
