LAEC Winter Show Results

Burbank, California. Amy Pulliam White and Athlete Graphite were the undisputed champions in the Junior-Amateur Owner Jumpers at the “A” rated LAEC Winter Show (March 16-18, 2007) as they made a clean sweep of the section. Pulliam White has had the ten year old bay gelding for a number of years and brought him through the jumper ranks with the help of her trainer, Linda Green. Between her career as a graphic designer and her family obligations, that include her young son, Pulliam White tries to show once a month. The pair have become increasingly competitive in the 1.30 meter Junior-Amateur Owner Jumpers.

On the other end of the spectrum, adult rider Julie Kagan made her debut in the show ring. Although a veteran of the stage and screen, Kagan had never shown before and with trainer Philip Klipa’s guidance she captured the championship in the Rusty Stirrup Section on her new horse, Fargo. “This is just wonderful!” exclaimed Kagan. “I had so much fun.” She won three over fence classes, and earned seconds and thirds in her other classes. Kagan learned to ride on her first horse, Danny Boy, a twenty-something gelding she obtained from a riding school. While Danny Boy was a perfect first teacher, his show ring days were behind him. Klipa found Fargo, a wonderful adult horse that will easily take Kagan into the Adult Amateur hunters and equitation.

Klipa also coached Phyllis Hennigan’s Rascal to the Regular Working Hunter championship with fellow professional Archie Cox in the irons. Showing the gelding’s versatility, Hennigan showed Rascal in the Green Rider section, where they won an over fences class and finished as reserve champions. Rachel Drisdell earned the championship with her Billy The Kid, and Scott McFall trains.

In the equitation and medal classes, junior riders from Elvenstar dominated. Danielle Morrison earned the equitation championship for riders 14-15 after winning both over fence classes and finishing third in the flat. Ali Ohringer won the USEF Junior Medal, while Sarah Sharou won the USEF Pony Medal. Samantha Sommers won the WIHS Pony Equitation, and Demi Stiegler won both the PCHA Horsemanship and the Show Circuit Children’s Medals.

DiAnn Langer coached a number of her riders to top prizes as well. Hallie Cameron and Rock Steady won the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 championship after winning two of the over fence classes. Barbie Pappas rode her Coventry to the win in the Amateur Equitation Over Fences, and thirds in the USEF Adult and Foxfield Medals. Gina Groth was consistently second in the Amateur Owner Hunters and wound up reserve champion with Just George. Laura Wasserman took home the tricolor with her Overseas. Archie Cox trains the pair.

In the jumpers, Paige Kirwin rode Gangster to the championship in the 1.20 meter section under the guidance of Shari Rose.
