LEG UP News Great Giveaway

Burbank, CA. LEG Up News keeps its readers informed about all the hunter/jumper news, and to help introduce LEG UP News, Langer Equestrian Group (LEG) held a promotional raffle. For ten days LEG randomly picked three winners from users who registered their e-mail address. Each day LEG gave away a free show stall, a free class, and a $50 Shaw’s Saddlery gift certificate (http://www.shawssaddlery.com).

Lisa Westin won a free class entry, and it will come in handy for the hunter/jumper trainer at Thunderstruck Farm at El Sueno Equestrian Center in Somis, California. She and her students go to “a lot of LEG shows, especially Gold Coast shows. It’s nice to have a circuit nearby, within driving distance. We get to go to good shows within a day’s drive. Gold Coast provides a good environment and they are good horse shows. People and horses can gain experience without a lot of cost. It’s also a good place for green horses and green riders.”

Westin, riding since she was three, turned professional at 18. She took an eight-year hiatus from training to work in the motion picture industry as a camera assistant. In 2003 she went back to doing horses on a permanent basis. “El Sueno, which opened in 2007, has room for 80 horses,” she said. “They have a covered arena, two jumping arenas and a dressage court. We hope to have a cross country course next year.” In 2009 Westin plans on making the Gold Coast Series part of her schedule. “The raffle is a great way to stimulate people,” she said.

Amateur riders Sanjay Bagai and his wife Phoebe will use their class entry at the next LEG show in Woodside. They own Zeitgeist Equestrian and train with Eddie Macken. “I used to own a bank and I sold the bank, but I still had the Zeitgeist logo and the name,” explained Bagai. This is Bagai’s rookie year riding in grand prix, and his wife, Phoebe rides in the high amateurs. “We go to Europe four times a year,” he said. “Each time we look at 200-400 horses, and we see 10-45 horses a day. We pick two to five horses. Our goal is to always own good horses. We are improving our horses and our herd quality.”

After Sanjay saw his first LEG UP News e-mail, he had to subscribe. “The Langer News is always reporting on everything in show jumping,” he said. “They don’t report just their events but important events anywhere in show jumping. There is no other place to get this information so quickly. We don’t have anything else. LEG UP News has everything right away.”

Although Michele Hillberg doesn’t ride, the stall she won won’t go to waste. She has two junior riders, Melissa and Isabelle, in her family. Since the girls moved to Rubicon Farms and trainer LesAnn LeClaire, they have been very successful in the A Hunter rings, winning championships at some major shows. “I like keeping up-to-date with the newsletter,” she said. “It’s much more personal than the magazines. While the magazines have articles on how to take care of your horse, the newsletter keeps you in touch with every day things. We will use the stall when we go to LA in early November. This was a really exciting prize.”
