Allwyn Court Continues Winning Streak at Littlewood Spring Circuit

Nairobi, Costa Sur, and Farnley Byron Win Spring Series Tricolors

Wellington, FL – April 30, 2007 – Sixteen-year-old Katherine Newman and Nairobi continued their winning ways at the Zada Enterprises LLC Littlewood Spring Circuit this past weekend. Newman trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry Newman, at their Wellington-based farm Allwyn Court. She also rides with Todd Minikus and often catch-rides for other trainers while at shows.

Newman piloted Nairobi to three blue ribbons and one fourth over fences in the Large Junior Hunters. They also pinned seventh in the under saddle and won the division championship. The previous weekend, the pair won the championship after they captured three blue ribbons and a second place over fences and fifth in the under saddle.

Because of their consistent wins, Nairobi and Newman earned the overall Large Junior Hunter Circuit Championship for the six-week spring series. Nairobi is owned by Kimberly Wang, and Newman showed him for trainers Nora and Morgan Thomas.

“Nairobi is so much fun to ride,” commented Newman. “He’s a really nice horse and is fun to go around the course on. He has a huge step and feels like it takes forever,” she laughed. “This weekend was my sixth show with him, and every week he gets better and better. He used to be a stallion and was gelded in January. He is getting so much calmer and more relaxed in the ring, and he really felt great.”

The young rider also showed her horse Costa Sur in the High Junior Jumpers. They won the Power and Speed on Friday and had the last rail down in the first round of the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic and finished third on Sunday. The duo earned the division championship for the weekend, and they also received the High Junior/A-O Reserve Circuit Championship.

Newman competed in the equitation ring this weekend as well with Forever Blue, a horse owned by Mimi Abel-Smith. She won blue ribbons in the USEF Medal and ASPCA Maclay.

In the Small Pony Hunters, Farnley Byron and Christina Firestone took second, sixth, and two sevenths over fences. They also earned third in the model and second in the under saddle. Last weekend Firestone and the small pony won the reserve championship after they were awarded two blue ribbons over fences, along with second, two thirds, and a fourth.

In addition to all of their ribbons and tricolors, Allwyn Court’s Farnley Byron received the overall Small Pony Circuit Championship.

“We’ve had Farnley Byron for about six years now. We got him when he was a yearling,” Newman noted. “He’s very laid-back, and he’s really fun to ride because he rides like a horse and always jumps big and round. He’s a perfect kid’s pony because he doesn’t care about anything.”

“Christina rides him so well, and he definitely likes her,” added Newman. “She is such a good rider for her age. She has a good feel and always knows where she is. They are a good match. It’s amazing to watch.”

Corvet Z, another horse owned by Allwyn Court, competed in the Non-Thoroughbred Hunters with Kathy Newman, and they finished with first, second, and third place ribbons.

Allwyn Court will travel to Lexington, KY, to show at the Kentucky Spring Shows next. They will then relocate to compete at the Devon Horse Show, the Upperville Colt and Horse Show, and the Lake Placid Horse Shows in New York.
