Liz Halliday Enjoys Strong Run at Withington Manor Horse Trials

Liz Halliday enjoyed a strong showing at the Withington Manor Horse Trials last weekend, just days before jetting out to Valencia to race Team Modena’s Aston Martin DBR9 in the second round of the Le Mans Series.

The UK-based Californian, whose unique career sees her switching between the diverse sporting disciplines of 3-day eventing and motor racing, took one of her three horses, Oscar, to the massively over-subscribed event in Gloucestershire, UK, and produce an impressive performance. After producing a strong score in Dressage and positive rounds in both Cross Country and Show Jumping, Halliday was really pleased with Oscar as the pair finished eleventh.

“He finished in the top three of the dressage,” Liz said. “He was a little bit naughty, but got a good score, and considering he hasn’t competed since late-March it was a good performance. On the show jumping we knocked a couple of rails down, but one was my fault and not his, so I was a bit disappointed with that. However it was a really difficult course and there were only four or five clear rounds out of a field of 36 horses, so it wasn’t too bad. Then on the cross country I thought he was awesome. I let him have a few a few time faults due to the ground being pretty hard but he gets better every time he does cross country and I feel he’ll make a step forward again in the next event.”

After returning to her other life as a sports car racing driver this weekend at the 1000kms of Valencia, Halliday is back in the saddle with Oscar, Harry and Fox on 11 May at Aston-Le-Walls.
