Liza Towell-Boyd of Finally Farm wins $25k class at Blowing Rock Charity Horse show for Fifth time!

Blowing Rock, NC (August 5, 2008) -- Liza Towell-Boyd of Finally Farm won the $25,000 Kathryn G. Clark Challenge of Champions on Enticer, owned by Helen Milner, at the 85th annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show, the oldest continuous horse show in the country, in Blowing Rock, NC on Sunday, August 3, 2008. The class which does not have an entry fee invites all riders who have won Champion or Reserve in their division – from pony hunters to conformation hunters – to compete free of charge in this prestigious competition. Towell-Boyd almost topped her winning ride on another mount she was showing in the class named Rosalyn, owned by Betty Oare. Towell-Boyd’s two horses jumped so well, placing first and second, with Rosalyn trailing Enticer by only one point for the win. This makes it the the fourth consecutive year Towell-Boyd has ridden out of the ring with the blue ribbon and trophy, making a total of five victories in all for the 28-year-old equestrian from Camden, SC. During the first week of the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show, Towell-Boyd was also honored when she placed 6th in the World Hunter Championship Rider Awards for the North East.

Her father, Jack Towell of Finally Farm has now trained eight of the winners since the championship competition was introduced eleven years ago at the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show. Brother Jack Hardin Towell Jr. took home the blue once in years past and Finally Farm’s rider Hunt Tosh had two victories.

During this year’s $25,000 Kathryn G. Clark Challenge of Champions, Finally Farm had five of their junior riders also qualify to compete in the prestigious over fences class. One of the stable’s leading juniors, Sarah Ward, who was invited to compete on Isaac after they had secured the Championship in the Small Junior Hunters, had recently placed second to Towell-Boyd in the very challenging new Hunter Derby Classic at the Georgia International Horse Show at the Atlanta Classic. The young rider once again entered the arena to try to best her trainer for the blue, but this time it was not to happen, with Towell-Boyd dominating both the first and second place ribbons in the class! In last year’s class, Towell-Boyd rode Brunello, whose owner Carolyn Clark Morrison is the daughter Kathryn G. Clark, the honoree of the championship competition, to the win.

The 85th annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show’s Hunter/Jumper II competitions begin on Wednesday, August 6, and continue through Sunday, August 10. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. each day except Sundays when the starting time is 7:45 a.m. A Blowing Rock tradition since 1923, the event will be held at the L.M. Tate Show Grounds located at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve.

Plenty of parking and complimentary rides in golf carts to the bleachers, vendors, competition rings and shops encircling the main ring are just some of the amenities people can enjoy as the equestrian classes take center stage each day.
Exhibitors compete in beginner classes such as leadline to advanced A-rated classes for big-money stakes highlighted by week I’s $25,000 Kathryn G. Clark Challenge of Champions.

On the last day of the show, Sunday, August 10, those exhibitors who qualify can compete for the $10,000 L.P. Tate Jumper Classic II.

Judging classes for Hunter/Jumpers Week I were Scott Hofstetter from Ocala, Fla. and Julie Winkle from Reno, Nev. For Hunter/Jumpers Week II, Scott Fulton from Ithaca, N.Y. and Geoff Teall from Wellington, Fla. will judge. Long-time Steward Mary Choate from Lancaster, S.C. returned once again for the first week, and her father Tom Brennan, from Charlotte, N.C., will serve as steward for week two.
