Maria Takacs & Mombo Win Amateur-Owner 36 & Older Stakes

WELLINGTON, Fla., Feb. 22--Maria Takacs and the 12-year-old chestnut gelding, Mombo, won the Amateur-Owner 36 and Older Stakes at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center Friday.

Takacs, of Rumson, N.J. and Mombo scored 86 and was awarded reserve champion of the division. Takacs rides with trainer Jennifer Bauersachs of Frenchtown, N.J. and have been competing together for three years. They competed in the Hunter Spectacular night class at WEF in 2006.

"He is very experienced," Takacs said. "He is an amazing amateur horse, very quiet and forgiving. He does better at impressive venues because he is a crowd pleaser. He likes an audience with a lot of people.?

Grand Champion honors with the Hunter Spectacular cooler and their names on the Kilkenny Perpetual Trophy went to Ellen Toon and Invincible. Toon, of South Salem, N.Y. and the eight-year-old bay gelding finished in first place finish with a score of 86 in the first trip over fences, Friday, adding to their points on Thursday to become champion.

"He has been great," she said. "He's only showed three times this circuit and he was champion twice and reserve once. He always tries very hard for me."

Toon and her second mount. the 12-year-old black gelding, Attache, were second in the stakes class with a score of 84.

Second place horse and rider for the first trip over fences on Friday went to Stormy Good, of New York and the eight-year-old bay mare, Saline, they finished with a score of 84.
