Marilyn Harris and Irish A Shine Win Novice Non Pro Bridle At 2008 NRCHA World Championship Show

Marilyn Harris earned the Novice Non Pro Bridle World Championship on her horse, Irish A Shine. It was Harris’ first World Championship, although she had won one as an owner in 2006. The 2008 World Championship came with a check for $3,458, a Bob’s Custom Saddle sponsored by Jackson Land and Cattle, a Gist custom buckle from Knight Haulers, a pair of Rios of Mercedes stock boots, a commemorative World Championship vest, a CR Morrison trophy, and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion.

Harris marked a 215.5 in the rein work, followed by a 222 in the cow work. “My dry work was good, but I am probably going to work on a few things before I show in the Non Pro Bridle in the morning,” she said. “I couldn’t have been more pleased in the cow work. I had a very good cow, got two turns. She circled really well, and I was so happy.”

Harris purchased the 7-year-old mare from Michelle Cowan as a 4-year-old. “She keeps getting better. Michelle had told me she is a show horse, and that’s the truth. She shows great.” That great showmanship has taken Harris to the top of the standings all year, resulting in the Novice Non Pro Bridle NRCHA National Championship.

The Cave Creek, Arizona, competitor grew up showing hunter/jumpers and all around western competitors, and although she took some time off while her daughter showed, she began showing consistently about four years ago. “I try do show horses as much as I can and still do my job,” noted the real estate broker.

Harris is unsure of what the future holds for her and Irish A Shine. “I have some young ones coming up – so I may sell her eventually. But for now I’m going to take her home and let her be a horse for a while, and then show her in the spring.”

Amanda Gardiner earned the Novice Non Pro Bridle Reserve World Championship on Sue C Shiner with a score of 431. The pair took home $2,840, a Gist custom buckle sponsored by Knight Haulers, a pair of custom spurs from Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, a pair of Rios of Mercedes stock boots, an ESP saddle pad from Classic Equine, a commemorative World Championship vest, and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion.
