Marley Farms' Horses & Riders Enjoy Show Successes

Burbank, CA. Heading into the homestretch of the 2008 horse show season, horses and riders from Philip Klipa’s Marlay Farms have done very well throughout the year and are poised to finish the year with a bang. "I think I am especially proud of my two top junior riders, Nicole (Edwards) and Madeleine (Holmes). A year ago they were both jumping 2'9"-3'0" courses and earlier this fall they both moved up to the 3'6" medals," said Klipa, who rode as a junior at all the major east coast shows under George Morris’ watchful eye. Klipa brings a similar attention to detail and focused teaching to his own program.

At the recent Gold Coast 7 show, Holmes won the CPHA Foundation class out of 20 riders, and finished third in a large Maclay class. She also won her age group equitation over fences class. Edwards enjoyed similar success at the show. In addition to ribbons in the various medal and equitation classes, Edwards was named Gold Coast Series Champion for Equitation riders 15-17.

Adult Amateur rider Gina Groth is leading both Zone 10 and PCHA for 35 and over Adult Amateur Hunter riders with her Neverland. Groth has earned champion or reserve honors at almost every show she attended this summer and fall. Ali Leopold has done her fair share of winning about the flashy chestnut gelding in the Pre-Green Hunters. In addition, Groth rode her Just George to a top ten placing the competitive CPHA Amateur Medal Finals.

Fellow adult rider Laura Griffin piloted Sowello to reserve champion honors at the Portuguese Bend National show in September. Griffin works full time in the wholesale grocery industry and shows selectively. "Philip has a way of helping you ride your best and keeping it fun," said Griffin.

In addition to his coaching success in the hunter and equitation rings, Klipa also enjoys the jumpers. "More and more riders are showing in the jumpers, and I encourage many of my riders to show in the jumpers regardless of their ultimate goals. There is a lot to learn riding in all three rings," said Klipa who strives to develop well rounded riders. Marnco’s two jumpers, Carlo Carlando and Glados have earned top ribbons in the Amateur Owner Jumpers. In addition to winning the Junior/Amateur Owner Classic during the Woodside Summer Circuit, Carlo Carlando was also reserve champion in the Gold Coast Series. Glados is new to Klipa’s program, but started out winning the Junior/Amateur Owner Jumpers. They earned high ribbons at the Oaks in August, and recently won the 1.30 Jumper Classic at Gold Coast 7.

Klipa enjoys teaching and developing horses and riders to their potential. He has coached riders at all levels and has garnered numerous championships during his professional career. "I have a really strong group of horses and riders right now," said Klipa. "I am really excited to watch Nikki and Madeleine progress in the 3'6" medals. Gina’s horse will move up to the 3'6" next year, and I am also looking forward to continuing to work with the top jumpers I have in my barn."

Marlay Farms’ riders will conclude the year at the National Preview and the Los Angeles National in November. Planning is already underway for the 2009 show season. In addition to attending all of the shows at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center where Marlay Farms is based, Klipa also has a select number of quality shows at Thermal, the Oaks and Showpark on his calendar. The barn also attends several shows close to LAEC, such as Hansen Dam and Flintridge.
