Megan Davis & Shiraz Shine in Small Junior Hunters

WELLINGTON, Fla., March 29--Megan Davis and Shiraz won the second round over fences and placed second in the initial round of the Small Junior Hunters 15 & under Saturday at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising.

Davis, 14, of Lutherville, Md. and her 13-year-old bay gelding almost caught the leader in the initial round with a score of 84 and took the lead in the second round with the high score of 82 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Davis rides with trainers Tim and Kelly Goguen of Lexington, Ky. The pair have been competing together in this division for a year.

"He is fun and easy to ride," Megan said. "He has a great canter so I can find distances easily and he's pretty consistent."

The blue ribbon in the first round, with the high score of 85 was awarded to Jessica Springsteen, 15, of Colts Neck, N.J. and her nine-year-old bay gelding, Sublime. Springsteen rides with trainer Stacia Madden also of Colts Neck. This is the fourth year at WEF for the horse and rider pair. They competed together in the Hunter Derby last week, a first derby style event for Springsteen and Sublime, and they finished eighth.

"He was pretty good today," Jessica said. "He is pretty much the same every time. He doesn't look at anything, he's a good boy."

The red ribbon in the second round with a score of 80 was awarded to Tenerife, a seven-year-old bay gelding owned and ridden by 13-year-old Noel Fauntleroy of Richmond, Va. Fauntleroy rides with trainers Ron Danta and Danny Robertshaw of Camden, S.C. The pair has shown at WEF eight out of the 11 weeks so far and has pinned consistently in the ribbons.

The field in the under saddle was dominated by the eight-year-old brown gelding, Capetown, and rider Ande Farish, 15, of Versailles, Ky. Farish and Capetown also train with Tim Goguen. Farish purchased Capetown in October during Capital Challenge and the pair have been competing in this division throughout the circuit.

Second place honors in the under saddle was awarded to the bay mare, Savannah and rider Casey Green, 14, of Westport, Conn. Green rides with trainer Lainie Wimberly of Ridgefield, Conn.
