Wellington’s Melissa Cohn Accepts Spirit of Life Award from City of Hope

Wellington, FL – May 9, 2007 – Melissa Cohn, Wellington resident and CEO of The Manhattan Mortgage Company, was honored with the highest award from City of Hope, East End Chapter/Jeanne Kaye League.

“The Spirit of Life award is an incredible honor, especially as the first woman professional to be given the award,” Cohn explained. “To be recognized by such an incredible institution is a great honor.”

Cohn, along with actress Brooke Shields, received the award at a luncheon yesterday at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, NY. The award recognizes women of high achievement and leadership who have made notable contributions to both the community and profession. As a leader in the mortgage industry, Cohn has been the recipient of numerous awards for her business skills and success. She earned the 2007 Stevie Award for Women in Business at Best Entrepreneur - Service Business and has been the top mortgage originator in the country 10 years in a row.

In addition, Cohn is as dedicated to philanthropic efforts as she is to her business. Some of her causes include Volunteers of America, Lighthouse International, Habitat for Humanity, the Child Development Center of the Hamptons, the American Cancer Society, March of Dime, and The Retreat. She is also an avid equestrian and competes around the country in some of the nation’s top shows, such as The Hampton Classic and the Winter Equestrian Festival.

“I enjoy giving back to the communities that have given so much to me,” Cohn said. “I am blessed with good health and two healthy children: to be able to help those who are less fortunate to be able to achieve health and happiness is incredibly rewarding.”

Cohn founded The Manhattan Mortgage Company in 1985 and it has been a leader in the mortgage business for more than 22 years in New York City. The company has branch offices in Manhattan, Purchase, Croton-on-Hudson, Jericho, Westhampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Amagansett, Upper Montclair, NJ, and Palm Beach, FL.
