Moon Bully named Appaloosa Racing Horse of the Year

MOSCOW, Idaho—The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) Racing Program is proud to announce Moon Bully as the 2008 Appaloosa Racing Horse of the Year! The 4-year-old gelding, proudly owned by Brad Anderson of Detroit, Texas, also earned the honors of being named the Champion 4 Years & Older Gelding and Champion Claiming Horse.

Moon Bully (Man With The Power x TB Fancy Moon, AQHA) proved his racing worth by competing in 10 races, and earning more than $34,000 in 2008 alone, and it didn’t hurt that he broke a couple of track records along the way. Moon Bully competed in a 330-yard claiming race May 2, 2008, at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he completed the track in 16.78 seconds with a speed index of 101. The Tennessee-bred Appaloosa set another track record later in the year at Blue Ribbon Downs in Tulsa, Okla. on Oct. 5. Moon Bully completed the 300-yard allowance race in 15.36 seconds with a speed index of 101.

Moon Bully has earned a total of $79,278 in his racing lifetime, and is sure to win more in races to come!

To be eligible for year-end racing awards, Appaloosas must have earned at least $10,000 in purse monies, won at least one ApHC-recognized graded stakes race or graded stakes placing in 2008. The Year-end Racing Champion Appaloosas were then elected from the group of qualifying horses by the ApHC Executive Race Committee, the Oklahoma Appaloosa Racing Association and the Western Regional Appaloosa Racing Council by written ballot.
