National Horse Show Social Scene Kicks Off with Welcome Party at International Polo Club Palm Beach
Equestrian News Release
WELLINGTON, FL – December 1, 2005 – More than 400 equestrians from the hunter, jumper, dressage, and polo disciplines gathered for the 122nd National Horse Show “Welcome Party” held at International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida, on Wednesday night, November 30. Following the first day of competition at the National Horse Show and Family Festival, which runs through December 4 at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club, riders, trainers, owners and officials from the horse show and polo fields enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on the patio surrounding the pool at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
The guest list for the party was comprised of members of the Diamond Horseshoe Club, the historic VIP table holders of the National Horse Show since its days at Madison Square Garden in New York, as well as the member roster of International Polo Club Palm Beach. Elizabeth Hedley, Special Events Director of the National Horse Show, and Jean ‘Kiki’ Umla, hostess of the Diamond Horseshoe Club, welcomed guests as they arrived for the special alfresco evening under the stars.
Leo Conroy, a Director of the National Horse Show Association of America, Ltd., delivered the welcoming speech. Conroy thanked the guests for coming as well as the host of the party, International Polo Club Palm Beach, for providing a beautiful setting for the festive occasion. Conroy offered his best wishes to all the competitors for success at the National Horse Show.
The Welcome Party kick-off for the National Horse Show and Family Festival provided guests with the opportunity to greet old friends from across the nation, many of whom return year after year to compete in the National Horse Show. The event was also an opportunity for equestrians from the four different disciplines to be introduced and share their experiences as fellow equestrians in Wellington. Refreshment stations located around the pool, which was decorated with lighted floating floral arrangements, allowed guests to circulate and socialize while they enjoyed the fare and the island-themed music. Tropical settings for seating as well as poolside tables also provided opportunities for guests to relax and enjoy the evening’s welcoming atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration.
