Allwyn Court’s Katherine Newman Reins in Victories at Littlewood Farm Horse Shows
Equestrian News Release
Wellington, FL – April 25, 2006 – Katherine Newman of Wellington, Florida, dominated the Junior divisions during the Littlewood Farm Spring 5 Show, held on April 13-15 in Wellington, Florida, and the Littlewood Farm Spring Finale Show on April 21-23. The fifteen year old talent, who rides for her farm Allwyn Court, piloted her way to multiple wins in the Junior Hunters and the Equitation. The young rider trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry Newman.
Over the weekend of April 13-15, Newman was in the irons on Castleton, owned by Pamela Dudley, in the Large Junior Hunter division. The duo jumped their way to three wins and two seconds, sealing the championship award for the division.
“He was just fabulous,” exclaimed Kathy Newman about Castleton’s performance. “Castleton is just as easy as can be. He’s a beautiful jumper and a gorgeous picture in the ring. He is so simple, always balanced, and never changes pace. I couldn’t be more pleased with him.”
Katherine Newman also showed Timeless, owned by Mimi Abel-Smith, in the Equitation classes, and prevailed to the winner’s circle. The pair captured blue ribbons in the ASPCA Maclay and the WIHS Equitation Jumper Phase. In addition, they finished in third place in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search.
During the Littlewood Farm Spring Finale Horse Show, Newman annexed the championship once again in the Large Junior Hunters with Castleton. Earning three firsts, a fourth, and a fifth, the horse and rider added one more tricolor to their countless collection. In only three horse shows during the Littlewood Farm Horse Show series, Castleton and Newman accumulated enough points to win the Spring Circuit Champion in the Large Junior Hunters.
In the Small Junior Hunters, Newman successfully rode her own Corvet Z for top honors. They excelled over fences to a first place finish and picked up a second, third, fifth, and seventh. Corvet Z, an eight year old gelding, and Newman finished the weekend with the reserve championship for the division.
When asked about Newman’s ride on Corvet Z, Kathy Newman related, “He’s such a great horse, and I’m really impressed with how he’s coming along. He reminds me of the horse Ashford Castle because he’s such a great jumper.”
Katherine Newman outshined her equitation competition once again aboard Timeless, winning the ASPCA Maclay for the second week in a row. She also added the WIHS Equitation Hunter Phase victory to her list of accomplishments.
“All of Katherine’s hard work this season really came through in the show ring,” reported Kathy Newman about her daughter. “Her weaknesses became her strengths, and I am very proud of her. She took on a lot of extra responsibilities this season because I was injured, and her help and hard work really paid off.”
Allwyn Court will compete next at the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, on May 10-14 and May 17-21. The farm will spend their summer competing in Devon, PA, Upperville, VA, Lake Placid, NY, Lexington, KY, and Lexington, VA.
