A Treasure Chest at the Great Southwest
At the 10th Annual National Reining Breeders Classic, competition and excellence translates to money, but they also mean great prizes! In fact, it takes two storage rooms to hold all the booty that will be awarded during the show, April 16-22.
At the NRBC, held annually at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, a signature tradition begins in 2007 with the introduction of the NRBC Championship Rings. These heavy 14-karat white gold rings feature the NRBC logo and a sparkling blue stone. Sponsored by Wallis Winegar’s Green Valley Ranch, they go to the Champion riders and owners in each of the seven NRBC Classic divisions.
Of course, the showcase award for the 10th Anniversary NRBC is the much-publicized Jerry Kimmel/Dun Gotta Gun Hummer H3 Golf Cart that has been featured throughout the past year in special locations and in NRBC ads. One lucky Open entry will win this unique golf cart. All Open Classic entries will be eligible and the winner will be drawn in the arena prior to the Open Finals!
The NRBC’s oldest sponsor, Twin Cities Featherlite, is once again sponsoring a year’s use of a Featherlite Horse Trailer to the Open and Non Pro Champions. Each year, Gary Raak, owner of Twin Cities, sends a four-horse slant to Katy for the Open champion and a two-horse for the Non Pro Champion and the sparkling trailers always provide a dramatic backdrop for the “win” photos!
The bounty actually begins at check-in, when each Classic entry will receive a 10th Anniversary NRBC Portfolio Notebook, sponsored by Howard and Carolyn Tellepsen’s Tellepsen Industries. They’ll also receive a specially monogrammed commemorative 10th Anniversary ball cap sponsored by Vaughn Zimmerman and Skeets Peppy produced by NRBC Official Monogrammer, Just Stitch It.
Then, there are “drag awards” for the high score in each drag of preliminary Open and Non Pro competition. Those are sponsored by Just Stitch It and by Pro Management, Inc. of Byars, Oklahoma.
This year, there are saddles for the champions of every division of the classic – including, for the first time, ever – the NRBC Classic Prime Time Non Pro division, sponsored by Fappani Performance Horses.
Continental Saddlery, of Ider, Alabama, is sponsoring both the NRBC Classic Limited Open Champion and NRBC Classic Intermediate Non Pro Champion Saddles. Oliver Dusterfhoff with Continental Saddlery, noted, “As a manufacturer dedicated to Reining we are thrilled and honored to be part of the NRBC's 10th Anniversary event."
Also on board with saddles to NRBC Champions are Bob's Custom Saddles, sponsoring the NRBC Classic Non Pro award saddle; Bandalero Enterprises with the NRBC $25,000 Open Champion Saddle; Equisport, sponsoring the NRBC Classic Intermediate Open Champion Saddle; and Kyle Tack, sponsor of the NRBC Classic Limited Non Pro Saddle.
Long-time sponsor, Broken Horn Saddlery, will award the NRBC Classic Open Champion saddle.
In addition to those awards, champions and reserves will receive custom Skyline Gold and Silversmith buckles, along with commemorative 10th Anniversary Coolers, both courtesy of the NRBC.
The awards don’t stop there. Third through tenth places in each division earn Top Ten Coolers and eleventh through 20th receive custom embroidered Finalist Director’s Chairs. The balance of finalists in the Open and Non Pro divisions receive custom embroidered halters.
In addition, the Open and Non Pro Champion receive Catena Watches, courtesy of Bill Kraft, and a pair of Anderson Bean Ostrich Boots from Anderson Bean Boot Company. They also get Custom Gear Bags from Silver Star Ranch and Quarter Circle C Pads from R.L. Lewis.
The Open Reserve Champion will take home a specially tooled Michelle Liggett notebook from MJ Saddlery and Braiding. Pernokas Saddlery is sponsoring a leather tooled photo album for the Non Pro Reserve Champion.
The Prime Time Classic High Scoring Rider will receive a specially tooled barn book from K Bar J Leather.
Custom Soft Ride Equine Boots with standard and specialty orothotics that feature the NRBC logo will go to the Open and Non Pro Champions and Reserve Champions, and to the winners of many of the NRHA ancillary classes held at the show.
A Custom Leather Picture Frame from Bandalero Enterprises goes to the $25,000 Open Champion.
Won Pad has donated a total of 25 Won Pads to a variety of top finishers in the Classic, as well as the top three in the $25K Open, and the Rookie I & II and Non Pro II Champions.
Texas Winery Messina Hoff has sponsored a wine gift basket that will be drawn from all entries, plus NRBC Commemorative Messina Hoff Wine will be presented to the Classic champions through third place in all divisions.
In addition, a ninety day supply of Hyalun will go to the Champion of each division of the Classic. Reserve Champions of each division, along with third place in the Classic Open, third place in the Classic Non Pro, and first in the USEF Reining will receive a 10-day supply of Hyalun Gel. Other lucky winners will receive tubes of Equilyte from Vetline.
The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just ten years, the NRBC has grown to include over 300 subscribed stallions and over 18,000 enrolled foals. For information on the NRBC, visit the web site at http://www.nrbc.com
