WELLINGTON, FL - September 17, 2008 - Phelps Media Group Inc., International, (PMG) a public relations firm based in Wellington, Florida, is pleased to announce that international dressage rider and Olympian Dr. Cesar Parra is the firm's newest client.
Representing his native Colombia, Dr. Parra has achieved success at the highest levels of international dressage competition. Dr. Parra competed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2005 Las Vegas World Cup Final, 2002 Jerez World Equestrian Games, and 2006 Aachen World Equestrian Games. He also competed at the 1999 Winnipeg Pan American Games where he helped Colombia earn the Team Silver Medal and was fifth individually and the 2003 Santo Domingo Pan American Games where he was fourth individually. At the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games, Dr. Parra won the Individual Gold Medal and helped Colombia win Team Gold. In his career to date, Dr. Parra has won more than 300 International Equestrian Federation (FEI) classes.
Since 1999, Dr. Parra, 45, has resided in the United States with his wife, Marcela, and two children, Federico and Nicole. Dr. Parra applied for U.S. citizenship in August 2008. He is aiming to represent the U.S. at international competitions beginning with the 2009 World Cup Final. Dr. Parra's current FEI mounts include Cinnco de Mayo, Furst Fabio, and Florence.
Dr. Parra established his training, showing, coaching, and horse sales business in the U.S. in 1999. Today, the thriving business is based at his Performance Farm in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, from April through November, and his Performance Farm in Jupiter, Florida, from December through March. Dr. Parra's clients range from Junior and Young Riders to Adult Amateurs to professional competitors who have represented their countries internationally.
Dr. Parra has trained and developed three horses that qualified for the Olympic Games - his own Wall Street, plus Leonberg and Galant du Serein owned by Horses Unlimited. He has also coached nearly a dozen riders for the Pan American Games, including competitors from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and the United States.
Dr. Parra has been especially successful in bringing along young riders. His students have won medals at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Year End Championships through Grand Prix. His students have also earned USDF Gold Medals and USDF Horse of the Year titles.
Dr. Parra's amateur riders have been among the top 12 contenders in the nation who qualified to compete for the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Grand Prix Freestyle Championship/U.S. League Final, and the USEF National Dressage Championships in several divisions.
In addition to his training and coaching operation at Performance Farm, Dr. Parra is a sought-after clinician, presenting more than a dozen clinics nationwide annually, providing his expertise through lessons, demonstrations, and lectures.
Dr. Parra received his dressage training from some of the top masters in the sport. He has trained in Germany and studied classical dressage extensively with the world's best trainers including Herbert Rehbein, Hubertus Schmidt, Sigfried Peilicke, Hans Rueben and Herbert Kuckluck. His mentor, Dr. Volker Moritz of Germany, currently travels to coach him at competitions around the world. Â
A native South American, Cesar Parra was born in Bogota, Colombia, where he began riding horses as a young child. In his academic career, he earned a Doctor of Science degree, specializing in Pediatric Dentistry. To further his education, at age 20, he came to the U.S. and studied at Harvard University and Boston University in Massachusetts. Dr. Parra taught Pediatric Dentistry at Boston University from 1985 to 1987.Â Returning to Colombia in 1987, Dr. Parra, then only 24 years old, established his own dentistry practice and also began riding again. He initially trained as a show jumper, but in 1995 Dr. Parra discovered his love and talent for dressage and has devoted himself to the sport for the past 13 years.
Dr. Parra's gift for riding and training international caliber mounts was immediately recognized as he rapidly rose to the top echelons of the sport on a variety of horses. Representing Colombia, he achieved many first-time accomplishments for his country. Dr. Parra won the 1996 FEI World Challenge Samsung Tour and the 1997 FEI World Challenge Tour. Riding Cimbad, he won Individual and Team Gold Medals at the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games. Also on Cimbad, Dr. Parra won Team Silver and placed fifth individually at the 1999 Pan Ams. Aboard Horses Unlimited's Pik L, he won Individual Silver at the 2002 Central American Games. Again riding Pik L for Horses Unlimited, he placed fourth individually at the 2003 Pan Ams. In Grand Prix competition, Dr. Parra distinguished himself with PF Robinson at the 2002 World Equestrian Games and he rode the stallion Galant du Serein, owned by Horses Unlimited, at the 2004 Olympic Games, 2005 World Cup, and 2006 World Equestrian Games.
With hundreds of FEI wins to his credit, Dr. Parra is looking forward to the 2009 season with his talented group of FEI mounts, including Cinnco de Mayo, a nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding owned by Roanne Denny; Furst Fabio, a nine-year-old Rhinelander gelding owned by Dr. Parra; and Florence, a five-year-old Westphalian mare owned in partnership by Dr. Parra and Dr. Jackson Morgan and Mrs. Carolyne Morgan. With Florence, Dr. Parra is setting his sights on the FEI Young Horse classes. Dr. Parra is thrilled at the prospect of representing the United States internationally with this topnotch group of horses.Â Â
