Winner chosen To Walk With Olympian Chris Kappler

South Hamilton, MA – August 9, 2006 – Today the Jumper Classic announced that they have chosen the winner of the 2006 Grand Prix Course Walk with Olympic team gold and individual silver medalist Chris Kappler. The course walk will take place prior to the $75,000 Fidelity Investments Grand Prix on Sunday, September 10, 2006.

The winner is Sandra Ashton of Middleton, MA. Ashton was chosen out of 1,000 participants who purchased online tickets to the 2006 Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic. She is excited and looking forward to meeting the show jumping superstar who captured the team gold in Athens, Greece, and then went on to add the individual silver to his resume.

Kappler now runs Chris Kappler, Inc. He specializes in training and developing amateur and junior riders and their horses, many of whom will be competing at this year’s Jumper Classic. Kappler finds this to be really rewarding and is also focusing on competing and bringing young horses up the ranks in hopes of continuing to represent the United States in future competitions.

Kappler will personally escort Ashton on the course as he discusses with his students his approach to riding the Richard Jeffery designed course at this year’s Jumper Classic. Kappler will comment on how competitors should adapt to the course given their riding style and mount. He will discuss techniques necessary for riders to have a clean round and be able to advance to the jump off.

The 17th Annual Jumper Classic has been in partnership with Fidelity Investments as their title sponsor for the past six years. This year the purse was raised for the $75,000 Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic Grand Prix. Every year, the Jumper Classic attracts top riders and horses from around the country to the Coldwell Banker Previews Grand Prix Field, located on the picturesque North Shore of Boston, MA. Over 10,000 spectators attend the event to catch a glimpse of the action.

Highlights of the show this year include the $75,000 Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic Grand Prix, the $7,500 Mohegan Sun Speed Stake, the $7,500 Welcome Stake, The Young Jumper Division presented by William A. Berry and Sons, the $4,500 Masters Division sponsored by The World, the $2,500 SUCCEED™ High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, the $2,500 Best In Show Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, and the $2,500 Equine Insurance Services Future’s Classic.

In addition to non-stop show jumping action, the show offers events designed for the entire community to enjoy. Saturday, September 9th, the Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic presents “Family Day,” an event sponsored by Northshore Magazine. Some of the activities planned include: face painting, a dunking contest, potato sack races, a cupcake decorating contest sponsored by EuroStoves, and refreshments served by Polar Beverages and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Spectators are also welcome to purchase tickets to The Lovelane Farm Charity Luncheon and The Children’s Equitation Center Luncheon. Both activities take place in the VIP tent overlooking the Coldwell Banker Previews Grand Prix Field. To find out more about these events and charities, please visit the horse show’s official website and click on the Special Events tab.
