2nd Annual Our Horses, Our Art Tops 30 Exhibitors

Equestrian Exhibit to Benefit Massachusetts 4-H Foundation

Northampton, Massachusetts—March 27, 2007—The outside of a horse is going to be good for more than just the inside of a man or woman at the second annual Our Horses, Our Art, presented by Massachusetts Horse magazine, at Skera Contemporary Gallery of Northampton, MA. The July 22-28 exhibit, featuring interpretations of the horse by more than 30 area artists and photographers, will benefit Massachusetts 4-H and its art and equestrian programs for young people.

“In 1955, when Massachusetts 4-H Foundation was incorporated,” says exhibit organizer, L.A. Pomeroy, of Massachusetts Horse, “one of the fast-growing activities was the 4-H horse project, which became the first large-scale, 4-H livestock program in Massachusetts with a recreational, rather than economic, approach. Since 2003, 4-H has sustained massive budget cuts and layoffs, and state funding to UMass Extension has been halved. Our Horses, Our Art is a way to support both our region’s artists and an organization that has always encouraged young people to pursue their dreams, whether through the arts, photography, or with a horse.”

Among the invitation-only exhibitors are three whose work was prominently featured at the 40th Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships: cover artist Juli Kirk of Easthampton, AQHA High Point Award portraitist Judy Duval of Monson, and IHSA Versatility Award portraitist Fabio Deponte of White Pickets Studio in Petersham. Also participating in Our Horses, Our Art are Leverett mother-and-daughter, Susan and Christie Mulholland; Westfield carousel horse carver Tracy Kochanski; barefoot horse trimmer Betsy Merritt of Williamsburg; Mount Holyoke College national champion dressage team coach Rebecca Schurink; Granby (MA) Regional Horse Council founder Diane Godek; natural horsemanship trainer Lisa Camilleri of Monson; Norwegian Fjord owner Ceacy Henderson of Colrain; Lisa Cenis of Shoot That Horse Photography in Granby; barrel racing photographer and Bay State Equine Rescue volunteer Renee Goodwin of Mane Impressions in Sutton; and metalsmith/jewelry designer Laura Roberson of Rowe.

Our Horses, Our Art will be on exhibit at Skera concurrent with the Three County Fairground’s 68th New England Morgan Horse Show, and Northampton Chamber of Commerce Sidewalk Sales. Monday evening, July 23, an opening reception, Unbridled Hospitality, from 7 to 9 p.m., will offer a chance to meet the artists while sampling pairings of chocolates, provided by Alan Crofut and Unbridled Chocolates of Keene, NH, with wines generously provided by Province Imports of Madison, CT.

Underwriting opportunities with Our Horses, Our Art, to benefit Massachusetts 4-H, are still available. Visit http://www.mahorse.com, or contact show organizer, L.A. Pomeroy, PomeroyLA@aol.com, (413) 586-6121.
