Traverse City, MI - August 6, 2008 - The 2008 Horse Shows by the Bay equestrian festival concluded on Sunday after three weeks of competition at Flintfields Horse Park in beautiful Traverse City, MI. Throughout the last week of competition the riders who accumulated the most overall points were honored in their individual categories as leading riders. The leading riders were honored thanks to the generous sponsorship of Ovation and received their awards thanks to English Riding Supply of Scranton, PA.
Each leading rider received a gift certificate from English Riding Supply for $500, which is good towards any English Riding Supply catalog purchase; Ovation is one of the many brands they represent.
Horse Shows by the Bay was very happy to have both Ovation and English Riding Supply involved in honoring the leading riders for this year's competition. "We are thrilled with our continued involvement with English Riding Supply - they represent all of the quality brands our customers use and value," said Alexandra Rheinheimer, co-founder and Vice President of Horse Sports by the Bay, Inc.
The leading riders were honored in the following categories: Leading Professional Hunter Rider, Leading Junior Hunter Rider, Leading Amateur Owner Hunter Rider, Leading Children's Hunter Rider, Leading Adult Hunter Rider, Leading Pony Hunter Rider, Leading Professional Jumper Rider, Leading Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Rider, Leading Children's Jumper Rider, Leading Adult Jumper Rider, and Leading Equitation Rider.
Peter Pletcher of Magnolia, TX was named the Ovation Leading Professional Hunter Rider after his three weeks of successful competition at Horse Shows by the Bay this year. Pletcher not only had about 18 clients and around 40 horses at the show this year, but he also competed about 25 horses himself. Pletcher is also currently the reigning Professional World Championship Hunter Rider.
Leading Junior Hunter Rider was awarded to seventeen year-old Katherine Newman of Wellington, FL. With numerous champion and reserve champion wins, Newman was the junior rider who accumulated the most points out of anyone in all three weeks of junior competition. Newman, who trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry, at their hunter/jumper show stable, Allwyn Court, was delighted to be honored with the title.
Continuing with the awards, the Ovation Leading Amateur Owner Hunter Rider was Donald Graves. Graves, of Bloomfield Hills, MI is the owner of Equisport Insurance Agency. He was very successful with his horse Cologne throughout the three series competition.
Daisy Farish, from Lanes End Farm in Versailles, KY was named the Leading Children's Hunter Rider after riding her pony Shimmer to championship wins in the Children's Pony Hunters division two out of the three weeks of competition. Farish is a talented young rider who is sure to have much more success in the years to come.
The Ovation Leading Adult Hunter Rider went to Francesca Senior who, training with Leading Professional Hunter Rider Peter Pletcher, was also very successful in all three weeks of competition.
A name that is becoming very familiar in the show world is that of young Lillie Keenan. Eleven year-old Lillie Keenan, who has quickly become one of the most successful young riders in the country, was the Ovation Leading Pony Hunter Rider. Keenan lives in New York, NY and trains with Patricia Griffith of Heritage Farm.
The hunters were not the only talented riders at Horse Shows by the Bay this year - the jumpers were also full of some very gifted people. Rider and trainer David Beisel of Cincinnati, OH was one of them, being named the Ovation Leading Professional Jumper Rider. Beisel rode several horses in every class that he competed in during the three weeks of competition and certainly worked hard to earn the title.
Next up was the Ovation Leading Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Rider, which was awarded to Erin Haas of Chelsea, MI. Haas rode her way to several wins with some very talented horses from North Face Farm during the three weeks of competition.
Going home with the Leading Children's Jumper Rider award was eighteen year-old Johanna Hyyppa. Hyyppa is from Connecticut and trains with Heritage Farm. She not only rode to several jumper wins, but also won in the equitation and hunter rings as well during the duration of the competition.
Ovation Leading Adult Jumper Rider was twenty year-old Traverse City, MI native, Mariola Power. Power was ecstatic to be able to represent Traverse City with her wins.
Wrapping up the Ovation Leading Rider awards was young rider Laura Pfeiffer, who was the Leading Equitation Rider. Pfeiffer is just fifteen years old and is a part of a long history of riding with her family at Fox Meadow Farm in Temperance, MI. Pfeiffer had a very successful three weeks at Horse Shows by the Bay this year, competing in not only the equitation classes, but the hunters and jumpers as well. Pfeiffer is a young up and coming talent to watch.
After three weeks of exciting competition and wonderful events for everyone to enjoy, Horse Shows by the Bay has come to an end for the 2008 season. Thanks to all of the generous sponsors from all 3 weeks, the hard work of all of the horse show staff and the enthusiasm and contributions of all of the exhibitors and spectators, it has been another wonderful year at Flintfields Horse Park in beautiful Traverse City, MI.
