Third Time is the Charm for Paige Johnson and Amagedon 3 in High Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumpers

Lexington, KY - August 1, 2008 - It was beautiful and sunny for the third day of competition during the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. Paige Johnson and Amagedon 3, owned by Salamander Farm of The Plains, VA won the first class of the High Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumpers. The class was held in the Walnut Arena at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park.

The High Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumpers were scored under table II section 2, a timed first round followed by a jump off if clear. This was the first of three classes in the division.

The pair galloped their way to victory in a time of 32.588, winning by 1.076 seconds. "I think I made the time up from number 2, the oxer going away to the two-stride, and that last turn from the yellow vertical rollback to the green vertical and then galloping that last oxer," explained Johnson.

The course consisted of 14 fences, including a two-stride and a triple combination, which was a one-stride to a two-stride. "It was a really nice height, very generous but a little spooky," Johnson said. "Very technical, I thought the triple rode a bit long in and steady out to a careful vertical."

Johnson and Amagedon 3 were the last to go out of 20, including Johnson's two previous mounts, Chiron S and Quibble N, both owned by Salamander Farm of The Plains, VA. Johnson had a rail down at fence 9 on Chiron S and went double clear on Quibble N. Her time of 34.751 on Quibble N was good enough for fifth place. "We're still trying to get used to each other. I fell off in the schooling area yesterday so we decided to bring him back in," Johnson said about her Grand Prix mount. "We did him in here and he was great."

Second place went to Onno Z, owned and shown by Rae Marie Kennedy of Orlando, FL. The pair completed the course in a time of 33.664 seconds. Third went to Olyna, owned and shown by Gabrielle Stern of Riverwoods, IL. The pair held the lead with a time of 33.797 up until the final two competitors. The white ribbon went to Trixy 5, owned and shown by Samantha Tuerk of Wellington, FL with a time of 34.270. The pink ribbon went back to Johnson with Quibble N. Sixth place went to Julia Lourie and Vivaldi, owned by Spy Coast Farm of East Setauket, NY. The pair was last to go double clear with a time of 35.646. Seventh place went to Alicia Gomba aboard Firewater, owned by WCEC LLC of Coral Springs, FL. The pair finished with a time of 31.916, the fastest time posted, but had a rail down at fence number 8. Rounding out the jump off in eighth place was Katina 12, owned and shown by Michael Murphy of Apopka, FL in a time of 33.185 with a rail down at fence 3a.

The High Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumpers will continue tomorrow. "I might just wait for the classic on Sunday," Johnson disclosed. "Tomorrow I might just do a nice, slow round. I want to get him relaxed and listening again. I want to let him know he did a good job and Mommy is proud."

The Kentucky Summer Horse Show continues tomorrow with the feature class being the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix in the Walnut Arena, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Kentucky Summer Horse Show will come to a close Sunday, August 3, 2008. The Kentucky Horse Park will host the Kentucky Summer Classic the following week, beginning Wednesday, August 6, and wrapping up Sunday, August 10, 2008.
