Pat McCarty and Broadway Peppy San Top 2008 Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro

Pat McCarty earned the 2008 National Reined Cow Horse Association

Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Limited Provisional Championship on Broadway

Peppy San.

It was only McCarty's fifth show, but he rose to the big arena challenge

with scores of 142.5 in the rein work, and 137 in the boxing for a 279.5

total. Along with $234, he also won a Gist Silversmiths Champion Buckle

sponsored by NMSU Truckin Chex/Kevin and Karen Stallings, a Cinch

monogrammed vest from Wayne Hodges 4-Star Trailers/Outlaw Conversions, and

Platinum Performance.

The Parma, Idaho, native admitted that competing in the Reno

Livestock Events Center was a bit daunting. "I was a little nervous. I've

always wanted to ride here. It's been one of my goals for a long time," he

noted.

McCarty made the transition to riding cow horses from a long horse

show career of riding reiners. "It was just a progression from the reiners

to cow horses. This horse is a reiner, and that's what I qualified him for

at the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) Select World Show. He

really acted like he wanted to be a cow horse. He's only been on cows for

six months," he explained.

The Cowhorse Inc., owner was quick to give credit to his helpers,

Shawn Deal, and Dan Roeser, who assisted him at the event. "Shawn has really

worked with me a lot, and Dan stepped in and helped me at this show. They've

both given me a lot of pointers," he explained.

Broadway Peppy San is a 7-year-old gelding by Peppy Buc Ballou and

out of Sweet Stage.

The Non Pro Limited Provisional Reserve title went to Karen Murray

of Mission Hills, Kansas. She rode her horse, Jac Be Light, to a score of

277.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the governing body of cow horse

competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards

of competition and educating members and the public about the history and

tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner

family that includes Adequan(r), Wayne Hodges 4-Star Trailers and Outlaw

Conversions, Bob's Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, Gist

Silversmiths, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Quarter Horse

News & Performance Horse magazine, the Peppermill Hotel/Resort, Fort Dodge

West Nile Innovator, Rios of Mercedes, Merial products ULCERGARD and

EQUIOXX, Great American Insurance Company and the Silver Legacy Hotel, the
