Jennifer Alfano Wins at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show

Harrisburg, PA – October 18, 2006 – When the awards presentations were held yesterday at the 61st Pennsylvania National Horse Show (PNHS), Jennifer Alfano of SBS Farms Inc. in Buffalo, NY, was at center ring for two of them. Alfano, who is the rider and trainer at SBS Farms with Susie Schollkopf, piloted two hunters to reserve championships over two days of competition at PNHS. On Meredith Lipke Bartolone’s Once And Again, she was reserve champion in the Regular Working Hunter division. Alfano also rode Quality Time for owner Laura Wasserman and trainer Archie Cox to the reserve championship in the Second Year Green Hunters.

Once and Again jumped to first and second place ribbons on the first day of competition in the Regular Working Hunters and then won another class on Wednesday. Alfano expressed, “She was so, so good yesterday and today. I was thrilled with her. Yesterday and today I thought she went as well as she’s ever gone.”

Once and Again had a chance at the championship, but was against very tough competition from Grey Slipper and Louise Serio, who were two time champions. “I was excited, but with no under saddle ribbon, you sort of know you can’t catch up,” Alfano explained. “I was happy to be reserve. To be reserve to Grey Slipper, we’ll take that anytime.”

Alfano mentioned that Once and Again, nicknamed “Sarah,” has no problem with the four foot jumps in the Regular classes. “It’s so easy for her; she’s just got so much jump. I think she enjoys doing it,” she said with a smile.

Although it was Quality Time’s first experience showing in an indoor arena, he had no trouble navigating the fences. He was third and fourth over fences on Tuesday and fourth in the hack. A first place over fences yesterday gave Quality Time the tricolor. Of the handsome bay gelding, Alfano remarked, “He is just really fun to ride. He’s easy and pretty much always the same- fantastic.”

Alfano will compete today and tomorrow in the Regular Conformation Hunters on Clockwork, owned by Old Oak Farm and trained by Archie Cox. SBS Farms Inc. will show next at the Washington International Horse Show on October 24-29, 2006.
