Penny Lombardo and Bring It On Shine in First Year Green Working Hunters at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show

Lexington, KY - July 31, 2008 - It was a very late day for the professional hunter divisions at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. Bad weather last night caused multiple ring changes and class delays at the Kentucky Horse Park. The morning began with light rain but cleared up for a bright sunny day in the afternoon. The First Year Green Working Hunters began at 3 p.m. after the completion of the Pre-Green Hunters in the Indoor Arena.

The championship award went to Penny Lombardo and Bring It On, a 6-year-old Holsteiner gelding, in the First Year Green Working Hunters. The reserve championship tricolor was awarded to Terry Brown and her mount Ferragamo, owned by Libba Fisher of Alpharetta, GA.

Lombardo was thrilled with Bring It On's performance. "My courses yesterday were very smooth. He was very nice and he's got a wonderful, long stride. It makes you smile going around the ring," laughed Lombardo. "He's just got a great rhythm and he's so comfortable. Today he was even better, nice and relaxed in the indoor."

Bring It On's owner, Ellen St. John of Delray Beach, FL, was also excited about the pair's excellent performance. "He's an incredible horse to own. He's just a fantastic horse, and Penny has done an incredible job training him," she smiled. "He's so nice to ride and I'm really looking forward to showing him in the amateurs."

Next to go were the Green Conformation Hunters. The top prize went to Terry Brown, of Canton, GA, and her horse Tasty, a 7-year-old Dutch Wamblood. Steinway and Kathy O'Connor also put in excellent rounds and came away with the reserve championship award. Steinway is owned by Jessica DiCampli of Seabrook, TX.

The Second Year Green Working Hunters followed in the Indoor Arena. Haven Schatt and Glass Castle, owned by Shaw Johnson Price of Chestertown, MD, proved unstoppable with flawless rounds, sweeping the division and taking home the championship ribbon. The reserve championship prize went to All the Best with Megan Udelson, of Russell, OH, in the irons.

The Regular Conformation Hunters and The Regular Working Hunters were the last to go today. Kelly Farmer garnered both championship tricolors. In the Regular Conformation Hunters Farmer won the championship award with Mio, owned by Rosalie Mortin of Charlottesville, VA. The reserve championship award also went to Farmer, this time with her mount Intermezzo, owned by Lucy Blundon of Chevy Chase, MD. Intermezzo then went on to claim the Regular Working Hunter Championship prize. Haven Schatt rode Olivier, owned by Pinecroft, LLC & Annie Frazier of Wellington, FL, to win the reserve championship ribbon.

Tomorrow the Kentucky Summer Horse Show will debut the $20,000 ASG Software Solutions USHJA International Hunter Derby, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Walnut Arena. The Junior Hunter divisions will also get underway in the Stonelea Arena, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Kentucky Summer Horse Show will wrap up Sunday, August 3, 2008 with the Amateur-Owner and Pony Hunter championships. The Kentucky Summer Classic begins next week on Wednesday, August 6 and will come to a close Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
