The Premier Women and Horses Expo Rides Triumphantly Into The Sunset

Springfield Missouri: The Women and Horses Expo which was held October 24-26, 2008 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri was a great success. A quote from one woman -" Wow"- seemed to be the general reaction by those who attended.

Although Friday's weather was not picture perfect, with some rain and cooler than normal temps, it didn't seem to dampen the spirit of the people attending the event. The rain and cold certainly didn't dampen the spirits of the women who proudly rode their horses into the arena, to the Helen Reddy song " I Am Woman" , at the opening ceremony. "I stood there and watched while more and more women appeared at the entrance of the arena to ride in and, honestly, it brought tears to my eyes as I watched them ride in with that song playing," said Cheryl Childs, editor of the Pony Press Newspaper, who co-produced the event. " I hope next year I have the time to ride my horse in with all those great women and their horses." Like Cheryl, many of the women involved found themselves a little teary eyed at the opening.

Saturday the skies cleared and the sun came out, bringing more people to the event. Those attending were treated to an array of lectures, breed/discipline demonstrations, great vendors and entertainment. With nearly 200 horses there the barns were a hot spot for those who were attending the event. Many attended the lectures, presentations, and the nightly performances of Dancing in The Dark. Many of those attending praised the number of different and unique lectures, demos and presentations that were included in the event.

Those who were shopping found a wide variety of equine and equine related products. Whether you were in the market for a saddle pad; conversion trailer; English, Western or Treeless saddle; feed; artwork: home decor; jewelry; or even a salt lamp it could all be found at the event. Those attending were directed to the vendors by Sonny the talking horse who greeted people at the entrance of the vendor area.

"We are so pleased with all the wonderful responses we have received about the event from those attending, equine exhibitors, vendors, and everyone involved. When we got back to the office Tuesday morning the Women and Horses Expo mailbox was full of congratulatory e-mails, thank yous, and people wanting to know if there will be a 2009 Women and Horses Expo," Cathy Childs explained. "We are so overwhelmed by the response. We had vendors, exhibitors and sponsors who said, at the close of the event, 'put me down for next year. We want to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, presenters, lecturers, equine exhibitors and, of course, the people who attended the event, " says Cathy who also says, " A special thank you goes out to the Women and Horses Expo staff and volunteers - without whose help the event wouldn't have happened. They know who they are, so thank you all so much.".

To all those who asked if there will be 2009 Women and Horses Expo the answer is a resounding yes and, like the song says, we will "come back even stronger, not a novice any longer!"
