Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue Provides Second Chance for The Son of a Legend

June 6, 2009 - West Palm Beach, Florida -- Not all racehorses go to slaughter when their days of racing are over. Gibber's Gold, the son of Horse Chestnut, one of the more famous racing thoroughbreds, is one who has been placed at Pure Thoughts Thoroughbred Rehabilitation and Placement for an opportunity to have a second career.

Glbber's Gold's trainer, Mary Hatheway, stopped his racing career when it appeared that he had injured his knee and she was concerned that he would get a chip in his knee. Although what happened to Gibber's Gold to end his racing career is not uncommon in the racing industry, he is not a statistic of slaughter.

When Gibber's Gold arrived at Pure Thoughts, it was believed that he would need a few months stall rest and then be ready to begin a second career. After his legs were x-rayed, it was discovered that Gibber's Gold had a chip in his knee as well as some degenerative bone mass. After consultation, it has been decided that Gibber's Gold will need surgery on his knee, which will give him an opportunity to have a second chance as a pleasure horse.

Gibber's Gold is one of sixteen racehorses that have recently arrived at Pure Thoughts Thoroughbred Rehabilitation and Placement Center. Most of these horses are in need of long term care, including x-rays and in Gibber's case, surgery. All of these horses gave their heart to the profession that was chosen for them and thrilled many people. Now is the chance for people to provide them with the prospect of a second, longer lasting career.

To get to know these wonderful racehorses, visit the Pure Thoughts website. You can keep up with the progress of each of these horses while they are waiting for their new home.

Your donations are needed to take care of the racehorses until they are ready for adoption. If you are looking for a horse with more heart than you can imagine, think of a thoroughbred and look at the ones that are waiting to be adopted at Pure Thoughts Rehabilitation and Placement Center.

You may help by participating in the PTHR "Belmont's Race". To read more about this and about Gibber's Gold, please visit http://www.PTHR.org. To donate money for Gibber directly, you can visit http://www.purethoughtshorserescue.com/ottbdivision/gibbersgold.php
