“ANIMAL WELFARE PROJECT” SEEKING HOME IN SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA

Valley Forge, PA --- State Senator John C. Rafferty, Jr. (R-44), recently presented the Animal Welfare Project, a non-profit organization, with a $10,000 check to support their efforts to create an animal sanctuary. Their main mission is to professionally re-train homeless horses and dogs, to be returned to and serve the community.

Rafferty recognized the good work performed by this organization and sponsored a grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development to assist them in expanding their efforts.

“The Animal Welfare Project is working diligently to re-train homeless animals for community use. When properly re-trained and rehabilitated, these animals can go on to perform very beneficial functions. Whether it is a dog trained for therapy services to senior citizens or a horse trained for search and rescue operations, animals have proven time and time again to be a valuable resource in our communities,” Rafferty said.

Animals taken in by the Animal Welfare Project will be adopted as pets and sporting competitors, or be returned to the community to work as service animals in fields such as Therapy Dogs, Handicapped Riding, or Search & Rescue. Other missions include the badging of Humane Police Officers, upgrading cruelty legislation, animal awareness education, and the conservation of open space and trails.

Currently, the Animal Welfare Project is looking for a donated farm property or facilities to use, from which the owner gets a tax deduction. They are also seeking volunteers who are interested in helping create funding, with several Board of Director positions still available.
