Ralls and Chicken Time Top Circle Y Ranch SRCHA Derby Rein Work/Lead Composite

Patty Ralls of Gainesville, Texas, currently leads the Circle Y Ranch Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro Derby, after winning the rein work for both divisions with a 148 on Chicken Time. The Circle Y Ranch SRCHA Derby is the first of three events to be held as part of the National Reined Cow Horse Association Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions, January 31 – February 8 at the 1st Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas.

The Non Pro Derby Rein Work win garnered $639, and an additional $300 for the Intermediate Non Pro division. Ralls and Chicken Time, by A Chic In Time and out of Paula Bud Acre, have had prior success. They qualified for the Intermediate Non Pro Futurity Finals at the 2008 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, winning over $3,000.

Samantha Etsell, of Arlington, Washington, won the Amateur Derby Rein Work with a 144. The 18-year-old is riding her horse, Dulces All That Jazz, by Dulces Smart Lena and out of Starlight And Jazz.

Leading the Amateur Derby composite is Joana Azevedo, of Brazil, and Poco Smart Oak. Azevedo has an eight point lead over the rest of the Amateur contestants.

But it all can change in the cow work, which begins Monday morning at 8am. The Circle Y Ranch SRCHA Derby contestants are all vying for a piece of the prize money, which will total over $145,000!

The equine-industry based Rein In Cancer has announced that it will be hosting a Silent Auction in the Sale Pavilion throughout the week at the Celebration of Champions. Vendors, Corporate Partners, and staff have generously donated to the cause, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to cancer research.

Cheryl Magoteaux, founder of the Rein In Cancer program, noted, “We all know someone who has been touched by cancer. This is a great way to help support the fight against this disease, and it’s also a fun way to get to meet the vendors and Corporate Partners. Rein In Cancer has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research, and with the items that have been donated, I’m sure that we will raise a lot of money here, plus it’s great to shop and the auction is located right on the grounds in the trade show area of the Sale Pavilion, and that means even more great shopping.”

The Rein In Cancer Silent Auction is hosted in the Sale Pavilion amidst the local vendors. The Silent Auction will end Saturday, February 7.
