Reiner Earns Big Scores at Saratoga

Oklahoma City, OK: The NRHA Reiner garnered wins in five categories during American Horse Publications (AHP) Awards Banquet, held in Saratoga Springs, NY. Awards included Instructional Single Article (writer Kate Riordan), Personality Profile (writer Doreen Shumpert), Magazine Cover Page (designer Lisa Wrigley), Open Color Editorial Photograph (photographer John Brasseaux), and Equine Related Show or Event Program (designer Jana Thomason). In addition, the “Official Publication of the National Reining Horse Association,” earned second place in Service to the Reader (writer Lee Raine) and third place (writer Kellie Carr) and honorable mention in the Personality Profile (writer Cheryl Magoteaux) category.

In 1980, the first issue of the NRHA Reiner (March/April) hit member’s mailboxes. Proposed by board members Paul Horn and Larry Rose the magazine was a big hit. There were six issues annually produced by Editor Pat Feuerstein and Advertising Manager Sharon Barr. In November 2007, the first issue of a completely redesigned Reiner debuted and met with very favorable and positive reviews.

“To have the approval of your peers is humbling, satisfying, and a tremendous bonus. The entire Reiner team earned this award. They are tremendously talented and dedicated,” said Senior Director of Publications Carol Trimmer.

According to Executive Editor Kathy Swan, “I’m thrilled that our publication received such a wide variety of AHP awards from editorial to photography and design. Our staff did a great job working with the magazines new format and designing and producing our first Futurity Show Program. Also we were blessed with the contributions of freelance designer Lisa Wrigley and photographer John Brasseaux, who helped give the Reiner its new ‘look and feel.’

In addition to Trimmer and Swan, the NRHA Reiner team members include Assistant Editor Krissy Colbath, Graphic Designer/Advertising Coordinator Bucky Harris, Graphic Designer/Editorial Coordinator Jana Thomason, Graphic Designer Martha Hagland and Advertising Manager Sharon Barr. Working closely with the staff, Lisa Wrigley was responsible for the Reiner’s redesign, helping reposition the magazine’s new look and direction and noted photographer John Brasseaux’s artistic images have contributed greatly to the beauty of the Reiner’s pages.

With nearly one-half million dollars to be awarded, 2008 NRHA Derby runs June 23-28 in Oklahoma City. 20 corporate partners and derby sponsors make this major international reining event possible. Those sponsors include: Adequan, Century Investment Group, Rocky Mountain Clothing Company, Cimarron Trailers, Classic Equine, C.R.
