Reining By The Bay to Benefit the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA

Woodside, CA - July 1, 2009 - Reining By The Bay is pleased to announce their support of the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA (PHS/SPCA) at this year's competition, being held July 21-26 at the Woodside Horsepark. The PHS/SPCA will be on-site July 23-25, from 11 am - 4 pm with pets available for adoption, and for every pet adopted an additional donation will be made to the PHS/SPCA. Reining By The Bay is an FEI qualifying event featuring over $150,000 in total added money and prizes.

"We are very excited about this opportunity," noted PHS/SPCA President Ken White. "Reining By The Bay allows us to take animals to a place where the people clearly care deeply about animals, and are clearly cognizant of what makes an event safe for the animals and the people. This is us meeting with our peers, but peers we might not have otherwise had the opportunity to get to know."

The PHS/SPCA is an independent, local humane organization that takes in every type of animal from dogs and cats to wildlife and exotics such as monkeys and giant tortoises. Last year PHS/SPCA helped save just under 7000 animals and this year that number will be even higher. It is through the support of generous donors and events such as Reining By The Bay that the PHS/SPCA is able to continue saving the lives of animals.

The PHS/SPCA has animals available for adoption listed on their website as well as weekly articles in local newspapers. The animals that will be at Reining By The Bay will be traveling in a "mini-shelter on wheels" that allows the animals to go out in the community and receive higher visibility. Anyone interested in adopting a pet from the PHS is also welcome to visit the shelter at anytime.

The PHS/SPCA employs just over 100 people, including six veterinarians, 15 veterinarian nurses, three behaviorists, and six trainers. The PHS/SPCA also has over 1300 volunteers actively giving of their time and talents, which allows the organization to continue its success.

The most recent project the PHS/SCPA has undertaken is breaking ground on its new $21.5 million facility. After 56 years they are moving and creating a brand new, state-of-the-art facility. They have currently raised over $17 million of the funds necessary for the project and are continuing to work hard to raise the money that is still needed. "The wonderful thing about this facility is that it will provide a permanent home for the programs that care for the homeless animals," explained White. "We know we will increase our capacity to save even more animals than we do at this time."
