The Ridge Sees Successful Weekend at the Winter Equestrian Festival

Wellington, FL – February 19, 2007 – Danielle Miranda, who rides with The Ridge and Nona Garson, repeated her championship performance from last week with Marengo and came home with the tricolor for a second week in a row.

Competing in the Modified Children’s Jumpers, the pair placed third in both classes on Saturday and won the class on Sunday to seal the championship. The 16-year-old rider recently moved up to the Modified Children’s Jumper division and is rapidly making a name for herself.

"Danielle was third in the first two classes, and the stakes class was going to be really difficult. I told her that to win, she just had to be faster than the other horses," Garson explained. "She took the advice perfectly and won by leaving out one more step in the final line. We went late enough in the class that we knew what we had to do. I told her that a good rider is a good strategist, and if you want to win, this is what you have to do. She executed it beautifully."

In addition to Miranda, Garson’s student Dana Rizzo was also victorious. Riding in the Small/Medium Green Pony Working Hunter division atop Hillcrest Red and Blue, she earned first and fifth over fences and an eighth place in the model.

"Dana and I have done everything together from leadline to ponies," Garson said. "She comes and rides with me when, geographically, she can. She just started riding in the pony hunters, so for her to be able to come to the Winter Equestrian Festival and win a class her first time out, we’re just very proud of her."

At the young age of 11, Dana has been riding with Garson since she was three years old. In addition, the sixth-grader is a native of Tinton Falls, NJ, and she attends Ranney School. She is in her second year of competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Garson added that another exciting event for The Ridge recently was to see Espor, a beautiful gray hunter, win a Second Year Green Hunter class with Holly Orlando. The horse was purchased by Liz Durkin at the first Intercontinental Sport Horse Auction as a young pre-green horse and has been very successful to date.

The Ridge is owned and operated by Olympic show jumper Nona Garson. Garson has locations in both Tewksbury, NJ, and Wellington, FL, and is recognized as one of the top hunter/jumper trainers in the country.
