SOLD OUT! Road to the Horse Sells Out in Record Time

MURFREESBORO, Tenn., January 13, 2007—Tickets for the March 3-4, 2007 Road to the Horse colt starting challenge held at Murfreesboro, Tennessee’s 222,000-square-foot Tennessee Miller Coliseum first sold out three months before the show’s start—with the last numbered seat sold December 21, 2006. Producer and owner Tootie Bland (of Noodle, Texas) added a section of bleachers to the 5,000-seat stadium, bringing the total occupancy to 5,500. Those 500 additional seats were officially sold out by Thursday, January 11 2007.

Bland is thrilled with the crowd’s anticipation and excitement for the event. “We have a waiting list of more than 500 people,” she said. “We’re thrilled with the response. We know it will be an amazing show with our returning champions—Clinton Anderson and Stacy Westfall—and our new competitor, Chris Cox. This will be a show for the record books. I also am disappointed, though, for the many people want to experience this great event and can’t get tickets. For another year, we may look for a larger venue.”

Bland says all but one numbered seat was sold by December 14, 2006. The final seat sold seven days later. The entire Road to the Horse crew anxiously anticipated the sell out.

“I went to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and when I returned to the office, my staff reported only two tickets were left,” she said. “Then one ticket sold. Every day we’d check and see if the one remaining seat had sold. That one little seat sold just a few days before Christmas. It was the most watched seat in the coliseum—in section 229. You can be sure we’ll do something at the event to honor that ticket holder.”

May 15, 2006 was the first day to buy tickets for the 2007 event. Premiere Tickets—front and center in the coliseum—sold out in the first 30 days. Reserve Seats—higher and a bit farther from the center of the show—sold out 40 days later. General Admission tickets were available until December. Road to the Horse tickets have always gone on sale during the second week in May for the next year’s event.

In front of record-breaking crowds, Anderson (of Belle Center, Ohio), Westfall (of Mt. Gilead, Ohio) and Cox (of Mineral Wells, Texas) will tame three virtually untouched young horses. Each clinician will demonstrate a unique way of gentling a colt and preparing it to be ridden and negotiated through an obstacle course. Rick Lamb, of the “The Horse Show with Rick Lamb,” and “The Horse Show Minute,” will host the event.

On Friday, March 2, Road to the Horse officially opens with a night of shopping at the no-admission-charged Shopping Extravaganza, 5-9 p.m. The public is invited to visit more than 130 booths offering equestrian and horse supplies and to see Anderson, Westfall and Cox during a special signing session. The ticked event begins Saturday, March 3 with one-hour clinics by each of the clinicians. Then, a herd of virtually untouched colts will be led into the arena. Anderson, Westfall and Cox will choose a horse for the challenge. On Sunday March 4, the show continues with the trade show and more of the challenge—leading up to the obstacle course test and freestyle competition. Judges will announce the winner at the end of day two. They'll use their horsemanship know how to judge which of the three colts has progressed the most. Judges include: Bob Moorhouse, Jack Brainard, Toni Warvell, Mike Kevil, and Robert Miller, DVM. Lindy Burch is an alternate judge.
