Robin Flournoy Wins NRCHA Derby Non Pro Two Rein on Annies Mister Rose

Longtime reined cow horse Non Pro Robin Flournoy was elated to win the Non Pro Two Rein class at the 2008 National Reined Cow Horse Association Derby, held June 17-22 at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, California. The action took place on Saturday morning, June 21. Flournoy, of Modesto, California, rode Annies Mister Rose, a mare by Mister Dual Pep and out of Fairleas Annie Rose by Colonel Pic.

She scored 417 to win the traditional class which is based on the transitional stage between hackamore and bridle training. When the class was over, the Modesto, California resident had a check for $780 plus an NRCHA CR Morrison Bronze. She also had a big smile on her face as she exited the arena, beaming with pride for her horse.

“She’s coming into her own in the bridle,” Robin explained. “She’s got so much cow and gets hooked on so well, she’s actually easy to ride down the fence.”

Flournoy, who grew up on a cattle ranch, has been a consistent winner in NRCHA competition since the early 1970s, and continues her Non Pro career today, riding with trainer Ken Wold. She credits her dad with infusing her with a love of cow horses and an appreciation of the Vaquero traditions.

Finishing Reserve in the Non Pro Two Rein was Debby Sanguinetti of Farmington, California, riding Peps Command. Sanguinetti and Peps Command, by Tangys Classy Peppy and out of Misty Fritz Command, scored 412 to earn a paycheck of $520.

The NRCHA Derby concludes on Sunday, June 22, with the 2008 Derby Non Pro and Open finals.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse.
