WELLINGTON, Fla., Feb. 15--The Adult Amateur Hunter 3-ft. 3-in. division was taken over by the elegant performance of Rowlanda Stephanos and Double Cinco at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center Friday.
Stephanos, 27, of Sagaponack, N.Y. and Double Cinco, a 13-year-old bay Westphalen gelding owned by her mother. Pamela Allardice also from Sagaponack, were undefeated Thursday with double high scores in both over fences classes.
Friday's performance was almost as remarkable with the high first place score of 86 in the first trip and finishing with the red ribbon in the Under Saddle and a second place score of 83 in the second trip.
Double Cinco has been with the Allardice family for three years and is usually shown by younger sister, Paige. Rowlanda is getting him ready for Paige since he had a few months off before WEF. Rowlanda and Double Cinco are preparing for the World Championship Hunter Rider Spectacular next week. She has shown him in the night class two years in a row.
"I'm starting him back slow," she said. "He hasn't shown since Capital Challenge. He is a great horse but a little quirky, not easy to ride. To have a good round you really have to work for it but he is amazing. He has an incredible jump and is a great mover."
Margaret O'Meara, of Indian Wells, Calif. and her bay mare, Sensation, were reserve champion. The pair won the Under Saddle and took second with a score of 82 in the first trip on Friday, adding to their ribbons from Thursday.
